max. file size before picture or audio degradation?

I was curious about what the maximum file size can be before you can notice a drop in picture or audio quality. Herbsman or anyone else with experience ,I'd like a little more insight on this subject?I've been using movie only and picking DTS and 6 chan. when possible I'd just like to know how this may effect longer movies, thanks

 

I've ripped N burned numerous movies (Dvd Decrypter + DVD 2 One Copy 2 DVD / Record Now Max)

But only notice degradation when the movie is quite dark ie minority report as you can see the pixelation but this is minimal , but the biggest one i've backed up was Blue Crush this is about 8.2gb in size and compresed down to 4.36 without any noticeable difference .

With the method I use you dont get any change in the audio as its the picture that gets compressed so the sound remains exactly the same as on the original .

I use the decrypter ,dvd20ne and then Nero with great results,but I have been having problems with the audio options . Some of my players aren't connected using the digital output( fiber optic)I needed to know if it would be safe to include all English options : 2 chan., 6 chan. and DTS, do you think I would have any problems choosing all three when they are available, thanks

 

I can honestly say I dont know as I tend to rip the Dolby AC3 only as not all dvd's support dts (even though I prefer DTS) , I would assume this would compress the movie further if you chose all the available audio tracks since the audio remains unchanged , If I get the time I'll try T2 Special Edition as I think this has AC3 DTS and THX soundtracks !!!

 

If you choose all 3, and your system doesnt support DTS (if its the first selection), your player may automatically default to this audio stream meaning you would have to change the settings manual with your remote to access the other sound options.

 

I've tried using DTS and 5.1 on a few back-ups and the quality seems to be pretty darn good. Oriphus ,I did notice what you mentioned about having to select the preferred audio option via my remote control,that's not a problem. I like having both audio options because sometimes my five month old daughter is sleeping and I can't crank up the Home DTS system,5.1 allows me to listen through another source. thanks for the tips!

 

No probs. I tend to prefer to sacrafice the extra audio in an attempt to get higher quality video, but its down to everyones own preferences
