    Hello,

I am trying to burn an AVI to DVD using Nero Vision. I set my project to transcode and write the files to the hard drive so I can burn later. However, I'm getting an error during transcoding. Here's the log snippet:

I've googled the error and can't find anything about it. The audio format is MPEG-3 and the video is DivX, I don't know if that matters.

Does anyone have any idea how to solve this?

    Thanks!

    Hi jaydee77
If you saving it to your hard drive I won't think the size would matter unless you running out of room on the hard drive.
    Could be wrong though.
What version of Nero are you using like 6.6.0.18 or 7.0.8.2?

    Hi Binkie,

The hard drive has plenty of room. It only fails when I try DVD-9, DVD-5 works fine. But if I use DVD-5 then the quality is reduced. I'm using Nero Vision 4.5.0.24 from Nero Ultra 7.2.3.2.

    Thanks,

    jaydee

I didn't think an older version of Nero would work, but it has! It transcoded fine! I haven't tried burning to a disc yet, but it should be ok. It at least got farther than before! Thanks for your help! I'll letcha know how the burn goes.

Glad that did the trick for ya!
This version is better for some things in Vision.
With Nero 7 each version has it's +'s and -'s.
It's finding what version works best for you until or if ever maybe Nero finally gets it worked out.

Keep us posted on the burn part.

    Here's some suggestions:
Check and make sure DMA is on for all drives- Nero doesn't accurately show the transfer mode when using nvidia.
Here's a guide to get you in the right direction:

Not the best for dual layer media - best would be Verbatim.
The burn is failing writing to the 2nd layer - about a minute into the 2nd layer.
I would try ImgBurn (free) to burn dual layer. You can open the .nrg file in it.

Roxio and nero don't always play well. So you can unisntall Roxio and run the zap tool.

    or
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

Try imgburn and let's see how that goes.
You can also get a log from it - just press 'L' b/4 your burn.

    Hi Binkie,

Ok, so here's how it went.

    1. I checked the DMA, and it appears to be set for all drives. Ultra DMA 5 or 6 for the hard drives and Ultra DMA 2 for the DVD burner.

    3. Not sure about the Roxio thing. I never installed Roxio so I'm not sure why it's showing that.

    2. ImgBurn. Here I got some interesting results. When I transcoded with Nero Vision I burned the VOBs, etc. to a hard drive folder. So, to get a .nrg file I used Nero Burning ROM and burned to the Image Creator. When I went to burn the .nrg file using ImgBurn I got an error message that said:

Optimal L1 Data Zone Start LBA: None Found! (VTS_01)

This images has not been mastered correctly for burning onto a double layer (OTP Track Path) disc.

None of the cells meet the 'DVD-Video specification' criteria for a potential layer break position.

Do you want to continue anyway?

I said no, which cancelled the burn.

I changed to Build Mode in ImgBurn and added VIDEO_TS folder at which point ImgBurn popped up a dialog asking me to choose the Layer Break Position. I chose 50/50 and then built an .iso image. I then used ImgBurn to burn that .iso and it worked successfully!

So, it was a long route, but at least I have a double layer disc that works! I'll have to write down the whole process so that I can repeat it when I have to burn double layer media.

Thank you very much for all of your help! I was getting so frustrated tossing out disc after disc, heh. I still have a few of the Memorex media left so I'll use those up, but I'll look for Verbatim for my next batch. On a side note, my DVD-5 media is Memorex too and though my recorder and the media are apparently rated at 16x they only burn at 8x. I'm guessing that's because they're "lower quality".

Thanks again for all of your help, I REALLY appreciate it!

    Hey jaydee77
    You're very welcome :)
Your okay on your transfer modes - Nero shows DMA off but using nvidia that's usually the case.

For Roxio - hmmm could be Easy CD Creator or there was another prog using this Roxio driver but for the life of me I can't remember which one it was.

You can take one step out of the equation for dual layer burning w/ ImgBurn. In Vision pick image recorder in 'burn to'. This will give you the .nrg file that should be good w/ ImgBurn.
The build mode in ImgBurn works great too.
I would use ImgBurn instead of Nero for dual layer burning.
Here are 2 guides for imgburn - making a dual layer iso & burning a video files via build mode:

Yeah dump the Memerox - your firmware is up to date but the lower burn on 16x media usually means your drive doesn't like it.
Some other good DVD-5 media is made in Japan only Sony, Fuji or Maxell.
    Happy burning!

    'Lo All,

I was experiencing the same issue in the original post with Nero version 7.0.8.2. For the heck of it, I upgraded to 7.2.7.0. The latest version seemed to transcode the video better (and take longer), but it was still unable to write to image or hard drive. I didn't try DL media, but I suspect that wouldn't work either. The problem seemed to be that Nero simply calculated the final size of the video incorrectly and automatically set the video to be 'High quality' (8000 kbit/s). To fix the problem, I simply set the Quality setting from 'Automatic (fit to disc)' to 'Standard play' (5073 kbit/s).

Looking through the log, I noticed a discrepancy in the project information section. The following two lines caught my attention:

[14:21:17] ExpressUI Quality: Automatic (fit to disc) (5073 kbit/s)
    [14:21:17] ExpressUI - Quality: Custom (8000 kbit/s)

The following is the entire project information section of the log:
