Ive been using Maxell's for a while now and they have been great. I just bought two new spindles and burned a few movies. In the last 20 mins of the movies it starts to freeze or even stop. Is this just a defected spindle?

Maxell outsources their media to several different manufacturers:
    Ritek
    Hitachi
    Older 4x speed-Taiyo yuden
    Ricohjpn
    CMC-Mags

You switched batches, therefore that MID code most likely changed. Issues at the end of the backup are due to low quality media.Maybe you got duped into cmags whereas before you were getting hitachis.

Use this free tool to find that MID code on your maxell. Test old batch and the latest batch to see how they vary.

To help with that freezing issue at the end of the backup, reduce the backup target size to 4300 mbs. I'm not sure what programs you are using.

I got a bad spindle recently also. They were coded ritek G05. Look toward the edge of the disk and tilt it slightly in the light and you will notice a line. Got them at wal mart. My next spindle at another wal mart turned out fine.

Maxell and Hitachi are the same company: Hitachi Maxell Ltd.

Thanks man, I used that program and scanned the Maxells

they are manufactured by Ritek Corp., RITEK R03, Made in Taiwan
from this site i see that the Maxells made in Japan seem to be the better media

    I use Nero
