maxtor refurbished problem !!!

    Hi : first of all i want to say this is a great forum and that i would like to thanks in advance any info on this problem i have !!

    Problem: I got a new maxtor 250 gigabytes hard drive and its was working well until it fail so i did RMA and got this new refurbished drive wich when i formated it its said i had only 233 gigabytes avalible and it also said i was using 71 megs of it. but the drive was newly formatted
    so the problem is where did 17 gigs when to ?
    do i have to call the Maxtor company and do another RMA or what ?

    do the properties on the drive & it will give 2 sets of numbers. 1 set being 233gigs & the 2nd set reading 251,000,000,000 or something like that. the 71megs used shouldn't be there. download from maxtor the diagnostic program to check the drive & do a low level format before doing a regular partition & format.

    the 2nd link is right for 250gig. if doing the total # of bytes than get true size of drive.

    yes but its only avalible 233 gigas why ? with my other drive i had the whole 250 to use

    you have the full 250gig as your 2nd link right side shows it. what does the bios show??
