Ok, after a LOT of debating, I think itll be better to get a premod. I have been thinking about modding my PS2 for quite some time, and have the money for it. But its a V4 (from what I can tell) and it already has DRE problems with CDs. plus I play FFXI on it and dont want to risk messing that up. Itll take me a lot more time to save up money for a premod but itll probably be better. Anyway, I know very little about premods. What is the best version of PS2 to get premodded? I heard the slims arent good and that people seem to prefer the V7s for some reason, I thaught people would prefer the V9 or V10 since those can play antimod PS1 games. And anyone know of any good stores (preferably within the US to avoid customs problems, I had my psx modcart seized once when being shipped form hong kong) that are reliable? (And offer a good price). A friend of mine recently was debating a DMS4 or Matrix Infinity Premod, the guy claimed that the only difference between them was that the DMS4 chip has ToxisOS which gives you HDloader (I dont really give a damn about that) and that the Matrix Infinity shuts itself off when not in use to prolong it's life, now THAT I care about. Im sure both support DVD9 and the EA games and everything, but what about PAL games? When I first asked about the DMS4 vs Matrix Infinity you said that the MI was better but at the time was having some issues with PAL games. So how is it now in playing PAL ps1 and ps2 games on NTSC tvs? Also, would my Gameshark, Action Replay, and Codebreaker disks work? My old gameshark disk no longer works even on ym unmodded ps2 if my modem is plugged in but the new one (which is now called action replay MAX) does.
http://www.teammodders.com/premodded.php these guys are great. make sure if you buy a slim that you get them to install a laser fix for you. They also have the V7 premodded. these are not used V7's they are brand new! I would say go with the V7 myself, i bought a premodded slim with a laser fix and love it, but they are know for having weak lasers where as the V7 is know for being one of, if not the best, PS2 version ever made. I also have a V7 and it has been running good for years. I bought my premodded slim at http://www.xmodd.com/ it comes with a Summone laser fix. But i am sure if you talk to the guys at Teammodders and want one they will do it. I bought my premodded Xbox there and it was fantastic.
Thank you for that site, but they only seem to offer V7 and slims, I want a V9/10. I dont like the slim models, they feel kinda cheap plus I heard they have overheating problems. I also dont think my older sharkport and gameshack2 disks will work in one, they also apparently have a good laser and good media tolerance. But above all, its because only the V9/10 seem to support booting of anti-mod ps1 games. Is a modded/laserfixed V9/10 reliable though? And that second site immediately gives me a connection refused error.
the only way you are going to find an older chunky PS2 is at a pawn shop or possible a game store used. They have not sold them in stores since last Christmas. That is why i suggested the V7, which is new. My V7 works great, and like i said it is considered by many people as the best model they ever made. if you have questions about what i will and will not load then you can always ask them. They will be glad to help you out. The chip should have no problems loading PS1,PS2,Imports, or any other type of game if you get a good one. DMS4 Pro or Matrix Infinity
just trying to help. I know it is a lot of $$$ but when buying used you get what you pay for. Unless it has been refurbished, then it may be ok. you can never tell how it works, how the laser is, if it has been rigged to work for a while before it is going to break back down on you. Just be careful where you get it. do not buy it from anywhere that will not take returns or give you some kind or a warranty period.
What exactly is so great about the V7? I really would rather have a V9 or V10 but those are starting to sound hard to come by now, how come nearly everyone seens to have v7s in stock. Can it read DVD+and-R? And how is their media tolerance? Hows the life of the lazer after modding?
Ask around and see what other people are saying about those models. i bet at least 7 out of 10 will tell you v7 is the best. But don't take my word for it do a post and do a survey. The laser life on mine seems fine. I am using fliptop and Swap Magic It will read +R and -R just fine i have had mine about 3 yrs now.
Alright, I guess its v7 or a slim, and that site does seem to have a good price. Are there any reviews of that store before? I tried to google information about it but there wasnt much, I dont want to get ripped off as I knew a few stores do. I would order from that xmodd place since I know a friend that got his v7 from there and it works perfect. I instnatly get a connection refused on this site? Also... when I try to dns it it says the ip is "0.0.0.0"
i can personally vouch for both sites. I refer people to Teammodders because they are new and are really good guys. Their systems are top notch. Just go there and look around the forums, check out the many install pics and check out the feedback section at the bottom of the forums. I bought my premodded xbox from them and also had them put in a DMS4 Pro and new laser in my old V5. Both work perfectly. and they are much faster than Xmodd is, it took me 3 weeks to get my slim from Xmodd. It took me 3 days after payment to get my xbox. their average time is like 3-5 days after payment to get your system. I highly reccomend them, and everyone i refered to them was real happy that i did.
I just purchased a modded v7 PS2 from Team Modders, and although I've not yet received it, I'm sure it will be of great quality. I would recommend them without reservation! Get a v7 soon, otherwise they might all be gone!
yeah, you'll love it. Davbere's installs are flawless. Hope to see you around the site there. make sure you leave feedback in the feedback forum after you get it and play on it a few days. Helps others make up their minds about the quality of work that Teammodders does.
Well, I just tried sending a request for a premodded V7 with a Matrix Infinity. Thing is though, all they asked for was my name and email address, they said they will contact me later and prefer to use paypal..... Kinda shaky, the other mod sites had an actual order system where I coudl type in my address and credit card and everything. Their "contact us" page is just a forum to send them an email. I also have not received any automatic confirmation of my order by email, meaning its all manual. And finally, their site's registration information says the domain was only created this September. I dont want to sound paranoid but thats a lot of red lights... Ironically, I also just noticed that Xmodd is back up now, but they only have slims it seems, I dont want a slim.
Sorry if it seems like I am trying to sound negative against the site, I am not, I just want to make sure its the real thing.
look, these guys i call my friends, you will not get screwed. Did you look at the feedback section in the forums? I doubt you will see anything but rave reviews. I have refered others to them and they were quite happy with the system. The site has only been up for a while. They had to move from their old site modchipzone.com to get a better site with more space and options. I bought a premodded Xbox and have a chip and new laser put in my old V5. Both work perfect. They do not have a typical type site because they are not a mod chip store. They do this because they love it and use the money to pay for and upkeep the site. They will stand behind thier work and if there is a problem they will fix it and make it right. I think they even give you a 30 day period where they will fix anything that MIGHT go wrong, but i highly doubt anything will. Most site do not do that. Please go and check out the feedback section to reassure yourself of the quality of work they do.
Ok, I defiantely DO trust them now and want to order from them, but.... Has anyone ever managed to order form them before? I sent an order request, they said they will contact me in 1-2 days, but I didnt get a reply until about 5 days later. They said they were overloaded with mod requests and that they will need to temporarely close mod orders until they are caught up. I thaught thats fine, it explains why they took so long ot reply too. I was checking the site every now and then, and pretty much within an hour of noticing they are accepting orders again I sent one. The next day their site again said they were overloaded with orders. Its been 1-2 weeks now and no reply if they are doing my order or too overloaded with requests to do it for now. Their site is still saying they are not accepting premod orders at this time till they can catch up. I saw the pictures of their mod jobs and my friend actually met one of their main installers in person so I know they do quality work, and they are one of the few places that still offer the non-slim PS2s. I want to place an order before they run out of V7s but have been unable to so far. Has anyone actually managed to get one from them before? Is this overload of orders just bad timing for me or do they get this many orders often?
What luck! They are now stocking many different versions of the old PS2s, although used, I can now choose between a V7 or V9/10 PS2 to have premodded. Problem is... I can't chose, I originally wanted V9 since I heard it can play ps1 antimod games, but I heard V7 is considered the best system and lasts the longest, and the V9/10s need a laser fix. Which one do you recommend? I need to chose before they run out.
