Media Center Help

    I have media center on my pc but I do not have a cable connection on my pc. What would be a cheap and good video capturing devise I could use? Thanks.

    I would Look for a MCE compadible USB unit from Happague they seem to be the standard and very reasonably priced.

    get a hauppauge hvr1600 tuner card (you can find as low as $60.00), just make sure you have the available PCI slot for it. This card has the RCA and regular cable coaxial inputs. You can hook up your cable wire to the back of this card and tune in the regular channels. You can also hook up your TV antenna if that is what you have.

    For a media center you need the tuner cards that have the mpeg hardware encoders built-in. they will encode all the video/audio directly on the card. You can install more then one of these cards at the same time. I use the pvr-150 (older model hauppauge tuner card), I have 4 of these installed in my media pc and can record 4 different tv shows at the same time.

    Stay away from the cheaper tuner cards that don't have built-in encoders. Those cards are not design for media centers, they use your computer cpu to record video. It will slowdown your computer, and they don't work smoothly on livetv/pausetv functions.
