Hi trip2378. Go start > control panell > Add or remove programs and at the top check "Show Updates", cycle down and find WMP 11, click remove and it will ask you whether you wish to downgrade, choose to downgrade. Your pc will be restarted and you will have WMP 10 back, if you hit any snag's where here to help. Good luck.
i tried that and it said that media player had been rolled back but then nothing more happened and even after i restarted manually it was still running media player 11 even though it said rollback complete.
Hmmm, well the easiest way would be a system restore, its kinda impossible to remove it totally actually, found out recently. Do you think doing a system restore to just after the instalation of WMP 11 would be a problem?
only just installed everything back on today and media player isn't showing as a restore point. its not too bad to live with i just prefered player 10. you ive and learn!!!!!! Lol.
Yeh, I just noticed that it doesnt crate a restore point, always create one before you install new software, that would be a smart thing to do. You should'nt have to live with it mate, I'll look into this issue, loads of people seem to be having it, after you roll back to WMP 10 and reboot, the instalation wizzard for WMP 10 isnt ran when launching the program??
i kknow, and the thing is i'll probably forget about restoe point next time too!!!! Lol. It all seems a bit of a con, you can upgrade but if you don't like it tough luck!!!!!!!!
sounds like it's a real hassle.i just downlaoded media player 11 beta2 myself, haven't installed it yet... cause i don't have service pack 2...lol it's more safe, really it is...and by teh sounds of this,i'm glad i haven't installed it...
hi, i personaly have got wmp11 and think its great and have no problems with it. having said that i ve got a solutiuon for you and if you follow it properly it should rectify your problem becuase ive tried it and it worked no problems.. plus this is the way microsoft recommends... here its is # Disconnect any portable music or video devices that might be attached to your computer. For more information, see Issues with devices after removing Windows Media Player. # In Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program. # At the top of the list, select the Show updates check box. # In the Windows XP - Software Updates section, click Windows Media Player 11, and then click Change/Remove. # In each of the two confirmation dialog boxes that appear, click OK. # When the rollback process is complete (it might take several minutes to complete), click Restart. # In Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program. # At the top of the list, select the Show updates check box. # In the Windows XP - Software Updates section, click Windows Media Format 11 Runtime, and then click Change/Remove. If you installed a non-US English version of Windows Media Player 11, the instructions in the dialog boxes that are mentioned in steps 9, 10, and 11 might appear in English. # In the first confirmation dialog box that appears, click OK. # In the second confirmation dialog box that appears, select the Do you want to continue with the rollback? check box, and then click OK. # When the rollback process is complete (it might take several minutes to complete), click Restart. # In Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program. # Click Microsoft User-Mode Driver Frameworks Feature Pack 1.0, and then click Remove. # Follow the instructions that appear in the Software Update Removal Wizard. If the Wudf01000 confirmation dialog box appears, click Yes to continue. When the software removal process is complete (it might take several minutes to complete), click Finish
hi touran thanks for your help. i have a slight problem though and dont know if you can help. even after ticking check updates box i am not showing 'Windows Media Format 11 Runtime' and after performing 'rollback' of 'Windows Media Player 11' i am not being asked to restart, i just get told that the rollback was succesfull, even if i restart manually its al the same. have tried to install mp11 again over the top nut cant find runtime anywhere. Any ideas? cheers for your help.
When you rollback WMP it takes all its runtime environment etc with it so there is no need to do that manually, so touran thoose instructions are no different from mine really. What you should be looking for is why after the restart it doesnt roll back, I reccomend you re download WMP 11 and install it over this copy of WMP (repair). Then try and rollback to WMP 10. Download WMP 11 here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.mspx
