Hi guys. I am about to start a new project, a media player pc. I have a few questions if u guys can help me out. Now basically all i want this pc/media player to do is play my films, music etc... It does not have to record tv or play tv. I have choosen a case, and i intend to put a 1tb hdd in it. My question is what kind of motherboard and processor will i need? And i want the media player to be ableto copy my dvd's and store them ready for viewing on my tv. I intend to use a vga-s-video convertor to watch it on my tv. Your help will be greatly aprreciated
Hi there. To be honest i think its a hell of a waste of a pc if that is all you want to do with it. You may as well buy a media center box or extender that attaches on to your network or straight into your tv. Your vga-svid convertor i think will degrade your viewing experience. Sounds like you only want half a HTPC. Can i ask why you don't want to watch or record tv on it? FWIW, i use a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H mATX motherboard. Has onboard HD audio and video capable of processing 1080p (which is why i bought it). Coupled with an AMD X2 4450e low energy dual core cpu @ 2.3GHz Not sure i can help any further mate as i simply would not do what you're proposing to do. edit: Just a thought, what connections does your tv have? the mobo i mentioned has vga, dvi, hdmi, probably better than using convertors.
The basic function will just be a pc,in media case. It will have a 1tb hdd. I dont want to record tv because i have sky plus. It is basically top act as a dvd player. and a way for me to store and watch my 200+ movies and music. i only have a standard tv which is why i need the vga -s video convertor At some stage it will be used to replace my exsisting pc, but for now thats the function i want. And what formats does WMC playback. Is this a good idea, or do u suggest not bothering
