About the only thing Memorex markets that's DVD related worth buying is DVD cases ...

The ONLY discs on the sale list that's worth purchasing are the Verbatim discs since the RicohjpnD00 made FujiFilm DVD+R DL discs make my burners wanna puke ...

Not in my book. Anyway, TDK is closing their manufacturing facilities for DVD media. That should be a hint...

Stick with the Verbs this week .. I'm betting that out of 50 Verbs, the only coasters you'll get will be 'operator error' ... out of 25 TDK discs, you may get 5 or more coasters

Looks like I'm going to have to stock up on the Verbatim disks this week.

I don't see why everyone is bashing TDK. They may not be TY's - but I know I've ripped over 100 without a single coaster. For the price ($6.99), I'll be picking up a couple. They're always a nice alternative for making disks for friends - instead of using my TY's of course.

    :)

    Let's see ...
    Crap TDK for $6.99/25 .. that's $13.98/50
You can get much better discs (Verbatim) $14.99/50
Aren't your friends worth the extra 2¢ a disc??
Also .. not all TDK media is crap .. but the quality is very uneven

well, probably because even though YOU have had success with them, MANY COUNTLESS others have NOT, me included...and when you say they may not be TY's..actually, SOME TDKs ARE TYs...so that's why you need to be more specific as to what you mean...i don't bash TDK as a company, i bash them as a manufacturer and their own CRAPPY "TT" or "TDK" coded media~ :) their TY/YUDEN coded media is naturally very good as Taiyo Yuden produced it for them to sell under the TDK name brand, it's their OWN media that sucks, along with their CMC MAG ones too~ :)

Any thoughts on the Fuji DL's I need to get a few of them to back up some of the larger movies that do not Shrink that well. I tried to shrink “The Incredibles” but I could only get it at about 59% compression. So I want to back it up on a DL disc.

I love this thread every week! I have been waiting patiently to see best buy have the verbs on sale again. I knew it was only a matter of time before they would cycle back to the verbs. You cant go wrong with the verbs. 6 spindles for me next week! Thanks for the thread.

    @radiodude

i thought the incredibles has two versions of the film? then you could just split it up on two discs.. each version per disc..

not sure on who makes the fuji DL.. waiting for the best buy 10 pack for $20 or the 20 pack for $40.. on the verbatims. only DLs i trust

No! Unless, like Doc said, you know you're getting the TY TDK's, avoid the brand like the plague! I made the horrific mistake of buying these a long time ago and they were sooooo bad that I had to get rid of them (some poor sap gave me money for 'em). They would always skip! They were absolutely horrible--so bad, like I said, I had to get rid of them.

Since then, I only use TY or Verbatim.

As for the Office Max thing, you can buy the memorex disc (which comes with the free jewel cases) and then return the discs (and not the cases). I always look for these loopholes since I got out of retail :)

Thanks for the heads up on those upcoming sales jasper. Staple's is due for a sony sale very soon.

I'll ignore the tdk's. Why chance it for 28 cmags? Big ripoff!

If my media-on sale system is right, the following week, office max should have those same verbs on sale for $14.99. I have enough sony yuden000-T02 to last me a few more weeks.

    Edit:
I just searched next weeks staple's sale and it's a jackpot! NOT. After having HP cmags on sale for 2 weeks, they still have cmags next week-courtesy of MEMOSUX!!!!!!!!!!! $14.94 for 50 pks. If you want these,I also have some swamp land in Florida that I can sell you, LOL

Staple's does have a couple other things on sale in case anyone's in the market for:

Memosux 50 pk slim jewel cases for $8.94

I/O Magic 16x lightscribe/DL burner. It may be a benq 1655-jackpot/HP-crappola/Lacie/or another brand name?.Classic who the heck made which I/O Magic dvd-rw drive? $49.94 with no rebate.

Anyone needing any photo paper? They also have 30 sheets of staple's brand 8.5 x 11 for $1.94. I've used this paper for dvd case covers and they did look very good.

    They have the 4 x 6 - 50 sheets for $1.94

Take those empty ink cartridges in as well. Still giving $3 vouchers on them, but 1 voucher per transaction.

I wander why staple's uses 4's in their prices instead of 9's?

Thanks for the input on the TDK's. Like I said - I have burned over 100 without coasters (TTG02 media code) 8x dvd-r. Looks like I've been fortunate thus far.

I'm relatively new to the burning process, and I haven't yet realized a difference in quality between the TY's I've been picking up and the TDK's I used to use all the time.

I have been reading these forums for awhile though, and there are many of you that truly do know your stuff. I do respect your opinions, so it looks like TDK's are off my purchase list for the future.

    @spanky

it's all good, at least you are honest about your experience and we ALL learn a thing or 2 from others here on a daily basis~ :) i've tried PRACTICALLY almost ALL media available here in the U.S. at some point or another, however small or large the spindle may have been, i've probably used it...and along with that comes MANY diff. manufacturers that vary from spindle to spindle, brand to brand...

i have a personal dislike towards TDK's own media only because, at the time, it caused me grief on ALL my burners (4 of them back then- ranging from Liteon's, Nec, and Pioneers and even a crappy Optorite burner) :) none of my burners liked TDK's own media, this might have changed NOW that updated firmware has come into the picture, but i'm not willing to spend money on TDK to "test out the theory" :) as people say, if you've been burned in the past before, it could quite possibly burn you again if you don't learn from your mistakes...trying to "repeat" my bad luck w/ TDK is not something i am willing to consider at this point in time~ but in all sincerity, i'm GLAD that they have worked well for you, but i think it's a good decision you made to use TYs from now on...i commend you for that~ :)

good luck and burn on buddy...

    docTY~

The compatibility, longevity, and overall quality is what separates TY from the rest (or at least from the POS media). For example, Sony, which you would think would be great, regardless of specifics of the media, was NOT good for me. They weren't the MIJ's and they totally sucked! They can play on players but I can no longer run them through my PC's. Plus, on one of my players (I have several in my home), even though they play, it's not at all far fetched that they'll skip.

TY, for example, does not have any problems. Even before I set them to Rom (for the first 3 or 4 TY's I burned, i forgot to set them to Rom since I've been using Verbs for the longest time), they played on that player that was having problems with the Sonys. Plus, from the stories here, the TY's dye doesn't fade or deteriorate. Couple that with the fact that so many other brands of media give us hell, I've stuck to TY's and Verbs.
