Oops - I mispoke. It was INDIA not China!!! My brain gets confused sometimes....I meant India...which although I did not buy any & test them out, I assumed that they are crap media.

Some good news though, I went to a different Best Buy today and found 4 spindles of +R Verbatim, grade A's, made in Taiwan, hidden behind about 50 spindles of the Indian -Rs.

New packaging on these again, now in dark blue & purple kind of design. These are made by "Verbatim" MID code, look like this according to Nero CD/Discspeed, same as the ones I've been getting great results with the past year or so.

    Nero DiscSpeed: Disc Info
    Basic Information
    Disc type: : DVD+R
    Book Type : DVD+R
    Manufacturer: : Verbatim
    MID : MCC 004 000 (00h)
    Write speeds: : 2.4 X - 4 X - 6 X - 8 X - 12 X - 16 X
    Blank Capacity : 4.38 GB
    : 4482 MB
    : 4700375040 bytes

And best news of all is that although the BB ad says "$12.99" they only charged me $10.99!!!!

    Phew!

i have had/do have excellent results with obscene amounts of Indian Verbs, whether it's the old 8x ones back in the day, and/or the new 16x ones

Same here. My MII Verbs have played back flawlessly thus far. I don't know how long they'll last (if longevity is an issue) obviously, since these newly packaged spindles are just that: new (new to me anyway).

But happy day! I'll be stopping by BB to check out if they have any more spindles in stock.

My local BB has plenty of MIT Verb 50 packs and YES, they are $10.99 each!($21.98 per 100) Got me some too! The ad is wrong. The "shelf price" is $10.99 each. Close to the Staples Sony price of $22.98 for 100. But for $1.00 less per 100, I went for the Verbs. Tough choice, but I really like Verbs better. However, I am going to also get some Sonys too. They are both very good media. I'll take either at these prices.
