After seeing several threads I have stumbled on to this.

    http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/

It is a new media server that can transcode mkv file on the fly. It does require a powerful network and computer but now we finally have the ability to stream mkv files without reencoding them first. I have not tried it out myself because I usually make avchd discs instead of streaming. I just wanted to let people know that this existed. If anyone has tried this then please post your comments.

Thanks but its been posted already. unfortunately this does not help us anime fans who have series which contain subtitles and more than 1 audio stream as it doesnt allow you to select which ones you want, it plays on the video files default setting.

Does it do 5.1 on mkv files? Too busy to test it out yet but really intrigued.

I am in the process of testing it. From what I have read it does.

I've read that it may have some sync issues for surround sound...definitely let us know Zero

I tested this a lot last night. It has great potential. However, if you want 5.1 it is out of sync. If you are ok with stereo then it will rock your world.
    PROS
You can rip a movie and it will see the file folder as an ISO (menus, main movie, extras and whatnot). It also will read and play ISO rips which is nice.

    CONS
5.1 is out of sync (audio is delayed 5 seconds behind video)
You cannot copy files from the media server to the ps3 hard drive as it sees the files as 94GB (this is not true of coarse but it is how it see them and therefore will not allow a copy)

5.1 is out of sync but I believe it will be corrected in a future update. Playing iso files is nice. I will keep a close eye on this project as an alternative to Tversity. I have had no problem copying video files. I just streamed a divx movie and it copied fine.
