Going back to what freddy4 intended:
Pioneer A04 then A05, started out w/ pioneer blanks and worked great 100%. Decided to save money so went with memorex 90% failure. Near the end chapters would get freezing and pixelation. Went back to pioneer blanks, 100% again. Their ya go helpful1.

I have been using DvdPro DVD-R media for backing up movies with 100% success rate using DVDXCopy 1.4 However they don't always work using other software. I have also used Insitepc's Premium DVD-R media which I got through ebay and they work 100% backing up DVDs with ALL my software. The DvdPro's -R media plays on every stand alone DVD player I have tried it on whereas the Insitepc's don't work on Apex players. Verbatim +Rs worked 100% with all software but also won't play on some players. Bottom line suggestion: Order the DvdPro -Rs from the Media Superstore for best pricing and best compatability if you are backing up movies using DVDXCopy!!! :) I paid $73.00 USD for 100 of them and they also sell single and double DVD cases real cheap ($33.00 USD per 100 cases).

    Pioneer dvr-A05

Using DVD-R DVD-pro(GradeA) .78 each for movies and ps2 games without any problems. It works on all standalone dvd players that I have tried.

    Burner: DVR-105
    Media: DVD-Rs (Ritek)
    Success Rate: 100% (Movies & PS2)

Benjimen: You can't just go off and saying -Rs and -RWs don't work. I'm glad to hear your +Rs and +RWs work but there are many of us here who have a 100% success rate with .95 DVD-Rs.

I have used DVD Decrypter, DVD2ONE, and both Nero and RecordNow MAX to backup both my movies and PS2 games. I have also used a handful of other software and have had absolutely no problems with burning and backing up all of these formats whatsoever.

How does this success relate in price?

    DVR-105 $246.00
    Media $0.95/each

For .95 I'm getting every PS2 game and every DVD backed up and burned successfully.

So please, before you go off and start saying how DVD-Rs are horrible, take a look at the other threads and notice that many individuals are obtaining great results. For the money that I've been spending, it has been well worthwhile.

You are so right GoConan -R are so much better for the price than +R. I'm using 0.78 DVD-R(150+ movies backups) for both movies and games no problems at all. Even at that price my DVD backups was compatible with all the DVD players that I have tested. For alot of people including me for the same price -R will always be better(better mean more compatibles) than +R. I can even play ps2 games and watch movie with -RW.

Only media tried so far Memorex +RW Verbatim -R and Sony +RW. No errors traceable to the media...only user errors ;/.

Tools I use (I have been able to make copies of copies made from DVDXCopy and from compressed InstantCopy copies).
    1. If I want to keep full movie
DVDXCopy. (restrictions of this software easily bypassed)
    2. If I want to compress 40% or less onto a single disk (still very viewable)
    InstantCopy
    3. Stripping
    DVD Decryptor of course
    4. Editing and trimming if for some reason the FAT of the DVD is worth the time of getting rid of.
    IFOEdit of course

I believe Ritek has shortage again, and price has gone up to cheapest I find is 1.19+ each even at quantity of 500.

    Hi,
I have only been burning for a couple years so bear with me. I have gone thru a couple 100 packs of Lead Data 1X DVD's and have not had a single bad burn (that wasn't my fault).
I am moving up to 2X DVD's now and have ordered 100 pack of Lead Data 2X for $.89 cents each and 2 100 packs of Maxell 2X for $.96 cents per disk. Does anyone know if I made a mistake on the Maxell? The reason I ordered them is because Lead Data was out of stock from my preferred vendor.

    Gentlemen:

If we want to be [bold]TRULY[/bold] helpful to each other(as opposed to letting our egos get out of control or spreading disinformation), then could we [bold]please[/bold] be sure that all contributions include the following info:

1-your DVD burner make, model, AND firmware.
2-DVD media you use, + or -, R or RW, including brand and speed rating.
3-Your burning objective(s) (copy DVD or PS2, author a DVD, etc. etc.)
4-What you are playing/testing the burned disk on.
5-Where you are (CA, USA, UK, etc.)
    6-Software you are using

As clear as the goal of this thread is, I'm surprised at how few of you have managed to generate a useful post. Lack of specificity does not breed confidence in the readers. I for one am not going to assume anything from the littany of lacking posts in this thread, and then run out and buy a slew of disks that MAY or MAY NOT work.

Anyone with the DRU-500ax and firmware 2.0c, I'm interested in the media you are using, what for, player, SW, etc. etc. (as above).

    !Gracias!

In my experiance with dvd and cd recordable media maxell is always the worst that you can get

zerxez if you can cancel your maxell order I think that you should (the discs may be fine for what you are using them for but I wouldent want to take my chances with a 100 pack

I would sudgest going to the store and trying just a single disc to see if it works before buying hundreds

I have had problems with maxell and refuse to buy anything from them now

    also pertaining to the thread

    I have a pioneer ao5
I use Verbatim Imation Pioneer and Ritek discs and out of those they all work for all applications but I like the ritek the best because they are the best value (quality and price)

if you dont care about price verbatim are the best

    Hello
First off I have a Toshiba SD-R6012 DVD-R/RW burner with WinXP all updates P4 2.8Ghz and 512MB ram. I would like to say that not only listing what you are using is important but where you are. In Canada DVD+ are expensive, like $10 to $20 a disc! The cheapest I have ever seen DVD+R is $7 a disc, whereas DVD-R can be found for about $3 a disc. The high end of DVD-R are about the lower end for DVD+R, so I would have to that DVD-R are the cheapest.
    Media tested Princo DVD-RW version1.1 50% fail
Ritek thermal and shinny 2x only 8 fail out of 50 discs
Legacy DVD-RW version1.1 all ten in ten pack work (other post metioned 1 fail but after disc erase with Roxio 6, it works).

For my rant, I would be careful what you tell people because where you are, what burner you have and what software you are running changes everything! I find DVDxcopy great, and notice some of science programs cause Nero to fail but Roxio 6 has no problems.

I was wondering if I could purchase something other than the DRU-500 A yet still + and -. I'm not willing to spend 300 dollars so I'd like to know of anything less then the new combined drive, yet still 1:1 ratio compatible. 4x preferably internal. Oh, for external DVD drives do I need 1:1?

This thread seems to have gotten off topic but i'll post anyway. I burning using Nero v5.5.10.20 on a pinoneer a05 drive with firmware v 1.3 with the crack to let me burn at 2x. all burns were dvd back ups.

I burned about 25 princos with 1 coaster which may have been my fault and all work in two dvd-rom drives and in my standalone (samsung m301).

    here are the -r's
5 ritek all burned and tested fine.
5 accu all burned and tested fine
3 beAlls and all burned and tested fine
About 10 generic with 7 coasters and none worked in my standalone but worked in my friends sony
    -RW's
5 princo -Rws which worked fine at first but about the third time i started to reburn them they began to fail. Kept failing verification and would have to reburn and from then on about 50% of burns would work
