ND595, I noticed that Princo dvd-rw's are cheaper than most dvd-r's....and all of the one's i used work fine since i only burned them once. Do u think Princo dvd-rw's are a economical choice if i want to write them only once like a dvd-r?
Ok, Here are my tests. I canceled the order for Maxell on the good advice from c7015 and ordered a mixed bag including: Pioneer, Ritek, Lead Data (which I already have)and Verbatim. I burned using Nero v5.5.10.20 on a pinoneer a05 drive with firmware v 1.3 with the crack to let me burn at 2x. all burns were dvd back ups. Guess what? They all burned 100% not one coaster (burned 10 of each). However a visual examination was more revealing. The pioneer have the best opacity and dye density. The verbatim and Lead Data appeared identical the Ritek die appeared very good but the opacity wasn't quite as good. The opacity test was done using the highly scientific method of holding them up to the a bright light bulb and comparing them to each other. I want to thank all of you for your input and let you know that I decided to stick with Lead Data for the following reasons. I have successfully burned over 200 of them, (only 50 at 2X) with no failures and no jumping or pixilation at the outside edge of the disk. And they only cost me $.78 cents each in quantity 200 from Allmediaoutlet.com (U.S.). I don't endorse any particular vendor so if you can get a better price or customer service go for it.
FORUM ADMIN !! ....PLEASE DELETE MY PREVIOUS ENTRY ON THIS FORUM. (Tools I Use...). (this forum does not seem to allow for editing of prior entries). After reading afterdawn's policy on postings relating to utilizing DVDXCOPY for purposes other than those intended by Afterdawn I now see the error of my ways and would like to recind my earlier comments in this thread. I sure as hell don't want to get Afterdawn in any more of a legal quandry than it already may be in. BTW, Good luck in court !!!
Yeh 50% would not verifty and then would not play. I would suggest getting better media if you are getting dvd-rw's cause these a crap. I would then have to erase and burn again with a 50% chance of them not working.
Cheapest I have found +R's is at Sam's club with Verbatim +R's at $22.00 for a 10 pack and $26.00 for a 10 pack of +RW's!!! Wow, can beat that!
Hi, I use normaly PLATINUM DVD+R an THAT'S WRITE -R I Don't have any trouble with it. no coasters yet (after approx 75 DVD+R an 75 DVD-R) only the standalone DVD-players have some troubles. The one works great with the +R and the other with -R. I use the SONY DRU500AX 2.0F on a P4/2,4Ghz/512Mb a mont ago i had a 50/spindle of DATAWRITE +R but half of it was burned OK but the other half was very coastered. and those who where burned oke only worked 75 % with the standalone dvd-players Here in the Netherlands are the That's Write about € 60,- /50 pcs. and the Platinum about € 90,- /50pcs. I saw it at http://www.opus.nl So this is my experience with the dvd media i use. (does anyone has any experience with That's Write DVD-R) Greetz, WvdG
K-Hypermedia that i bought from office max Sucks for burning ps2 images. i made one coaster, then i started test burning before the real thing, ive used the top dvd program ( dvd dycrypter, nero, record now dx, and others) k - hypermedia sucks, once youve tested higher than 50% of the game, it has an error and it stops. although i think its only good for data files, like mpegs and stuff.
!!Bulkpaq!! are SH*T do not buy these cheap so called DVD media. In fact we should boycott!!. This is my experience. 9 out of 10 are coasters, but i would have known this had read the forum earlier
I have a Pioneer A05. -Princo 2x unreliable. 50% coasters. -Ritek 1x unreliable. Pixelation at end of movie -DVDPro 1-4x mixed results. --25pack in spindle flawless. You can tell cause they have silver foil towards center on purple side. --200 bulk pack. unreliable. Crappy manufacture around edges, and 50%coasters. I am curious. I burned first 3 DVDPro 1-4x at 4x, but after that I get errors. But I can burn them all at 2x. Anyone can help?
I have both the pioneer 104 and the Sony DRU500A and I would place the media I use in this order due to compatability and price. 1)Verbatim DVD-R. I have used 100's of these disks and probably lost 10 and that was probably my fault. 2) Anything that is G03 or G04 Ritek media based always a good disk just a we bit pricey for what it is, but will work n just about anything. 3) Know the suprising one I did not think I would type this The princo X4 White top media?. Ok so it is not Ritek but Jesus this stuff is working on everything I have played it on PS2, Xbox whatever. The only Bummer is that it will only burn at X2 speed on the Sony but at £0.95 per disk what the hell that is less than the Verb and to be quite frank I can not tell the difference in quality ( so this disk should be no (1) on the hit list. at the end of the day a burn can vary on your machine, drive, what software and what works for me will not work for others. all media purchased was from http://www.nexus22.com
Pioneer A05 v1.0 firmware Have used DVDitSE and MyDVD Also use DVDXcopy Memorex discs (DVD-R) are 2/10 (lots of coasters) - after about an hour of video, there are dropped frames, pixellation and the disc stops playing. I have used my stan-alone Panasonic DVD player, plus the internal LG DVD-ROM and the A05 itself to verify the play capability. Have used Sony DVD-RW (6/6) and Maxell DVD-r 2x (6/6) I would not recommend the Memorex based on my experience. However, I have been more fortunate with the Maxell discs. In this forum, the question has been asked about bulk buy of Riteks in Canada. Does anyone know where they can be bought in Canada ? Thanks
Baldtaffy good info. I just wanted to let you know that I have purchased a 100pack of Ritek 1X and I had the same problems, as you Did with Memorex. Just my $0.02, and I get my media from www.meritline.com, they have Riteks...
Hi again, I just got my order of Lead Data disks the other day and am a little concerned. The first order of 200 I got a couple months ago were perfectly clean. This new order has (for lack of a better description) dimpling or slight melt marks on the outside rim-edge. It is only on the bottom piece of plastic. I have successfully burned 6 disks at 2X and no costers, but... All these movies backups were less than 4.1 Gigs. As soon as I burn a couple that size out a 4472 from DVD2ONE I will let you know if they stutter or pixelate at the end of the disk. In the next couple days. Cheers,
Zerxez, What burner do you have? I am finding out that for movies Maxell 2X is working pretty good, 20 for 20 burns so far. DVDPro are pretty good, just watch out for bulk packs... I am using A05...
I put all my specs earlier in the thread, but I am running a pioneer A05 with the 2X firmware crack. I ordered a 200 bulk pack of Maxell 2x then canceled the order and they sent them anyway. I decided to try them since I had them and burned 8 coasters and 2 good. I sent them back since the order was canceled anyway. It seems to me that with cheap disks the quality can vary significantly from one production run to another. And I have a question for anyone that may know. How does a company like princo stay in business? Do these disks work for some other application than data for video data storage? I have heard that their 4x disks work very well as long as you only burn them at 2x, at 4x they don't seem to work well.
Wow i cant believe my thread is still running, BIG BIG BIG thanks to all who contributed something new and useable, also a big thanks to all those that have given me a smile with there threads as well, I hope all newbies etc find all there questions on media are answered here but hey this isnt the closeing thread.......................KEEP IT GOING...theres always new media coming out and its always helpful to find some1 who has already tried it.....
Zerxez, Princo is very funny. I would burn a 2x on DVD Decryptor, and had nothing but coasters. Take that coaster and make a copy using RecordNow Max, and I had a perfect burn of the Movie. Weird...
As a follow-up to my earlier email Pioneer A05 v1.0 firmware Have used DVDitSE and MyDVD Also use DVDXcopy I have now tried "Pine DVD-R 2x" and got 5-out-of-5 good ones. Bought them from Future Shop in Ottawa ($18.99 + tax for box of 5). I'll be trying more of these. However, I have only played them in my Panasonic standalone and LG DVD-ROM. I'll be trying them in some friends DVD players shortly and will keep you posted
boriqua, I used princo 1x rw burned a lilo&stich dvd-r using Pinnacle instant copy played flawlessly then I burned same princo on dvddecrypter and movie freezes 2/3rds of the way. Someone reported to me (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/32726#146955) that it's not dvddecrypter but the disc. If that were the case, then I should have had a problem with the instant copy burn. I still think it's dvddecrypter (well until I get quality media to compare). I had same freeze problem with lead data too. Cendyne A05, Princo -rw and Lead Data -r 2x, Apex 660 standalone.
