I bought a spindle of 100 Memorex 16x DVD-R's. According to DVDIndentifier they're RitekF1. My computer recognizes that I have them in and that they are both blank DVD-R's, but i can't burn. WIth DVD Decrypter i get "Incompatible FOrmat" and with Nero I get "Illegal Disc"

The two DVD burners I have are _NEC DVD_RW ND-2510A [FW 2.18] (Mad Dog) and TDK DVDRW0404N [FW 1.0C].

    Please help.

I promise to never buy Memorex DVDs again,

It looks like you have the latest firmware. Is Nero up to date?

I wish my old Memorex came back Ritek. Mine are CMC Mags.

    Good luck

the lastest available version of nero that I can get using my current liscense is 6.6.0.1.8 So i'll download that and see if it helps, if not I'll see what I can do about getting the latest nero. But it stills doesn't explain why it won't work with DVD Decrypter.

    Current:
    DVD Decrypter Version: 3.5.4.0
    Nero Version 6.6.0.1.8

    Neither works with either drive.

there is a good chance that both your burners are a lil too old even with the most up to date firmware, not that your burners won't do the job, but moreso that the firmware is not updated properly by the manufacturers website to handle the newest of 16x rated media :p

give nero an update to try, if firmware for your drives is not current (meaning updated by the manufacturers recently to be able to recognize certain 16x rated media)...then you are pretty much stuck on using the 8x media that your current firmware DOES handle properly~

    docTY~

Nope. Still gettin the same error. The burn process fails in 2.4x. Still saying Illegal Disc.

Look's like I'll be goin to compusa and gettin my money back. This must've been why it was only $30

    citric ,
Below is the approved blank media list for NEC 2510A burner and 16X is not listed. You might have to do as dvdnoobie stated and stick to 8X blank media. You can always complain to NEC to update the firmware so that the burner will at least recog the blank media but I doubt that will help.

    OUCH
HP dvds are more than likely VERY poor quality, even if it was a penny less :p

CMC MAGs on most of them...as i mentioned before, stick with 8x media, however, when buying 8x rated media, stick with the "good ones"...you are downgrading from those 16x riteks to something even worse~ :)

locally, get Verbatim (made in taiwan) or Maxell (made in japan if you can find them) or Fujifilm or Sony (made in japan again)...these will be MUCH better than the CMC MAGs/other poor quality manufacturers that are used in such brands as : Memorex, HP, Philips, TDK, Teon, store branded ones (Staples/Office Max- Office Depot are the ONLY exceptions to being crap, they are Ritek manufactured or made by Ricohjpn on the 16x) :)

we all gotta start somewhere, i hope you listen to what i'm telling you here using your older NEC drive...GOOD QUALITY media is a VERY important factor in good/successful backups...

    docTY~

Hey critic, here are the good sales for this week. If you got your HP media from one of these stores then return them again for the verbs or sony's. If you didn't get them from one of these stores, then get an ad and see if they will price match. Those HP's are garbage.

    [bold]COMPUSA[/bold]
    Sony DVD+R/-R 50pk-$14.99
    Sony DVD+RW/-RW 25pk-$12.99

    [bold]Office Max[/bold]
    Verbatim DVD+R/-R 50pk-$14.99

Damn... I wish all of this posting would've happened before I opened up a pack and started to use some.

It surprises me some of the brands you're suggesting as good and bad. I really thought that HP and Memorex were good. I found that MEmorex CDs were always some of the best, so I figured it carried over to their DVDs as well. I especially would think TDK would be good since one of my drives is a TDK.

I've used Memorex, HP, Philips, and TDK all with no bad experiences. And I've stayed away from Verbatim and Fujifilm cause I thought they were kind of like a 2nd rate product from a conglomerate company.

    citric,
It is not the brand but the real manuf of the disk and how they are manuf'd. CMC is the usual real manuf. of Memorex and HP and they really are a low cost manuf but they are doing the disk according to Memorex and HP's Specs. CMC does make Verbatim but they are made to Verbatim specs. There really are only 3-4 real manuf of blank DVD's in the world so you really need to be careful what you use. You can use those disk if you slow the burn down and try not to burn to the outer rim
