Hmm, so overall you guys would not recommend Memorex Dvd-R at all? It's quite unfortunate i didnt have such knowledge about these dvd-r earlier. I brought a 50 pack spindle and used only 3 of them so far. Is Verbatim dvd-r really the way to go? Do they make good dvd-r that will last very long? These memorex look just fine to me, the dye used on the bottom looks pretty stable and I can read all the files on them just fine. There about 3 months old so far. Im kinda a noob on burning media and such so i need these questions answered: -Is memorex a great brand overall in dvd-r (mine are made by CMC)? -Are verbatim dvd-r dependable? (The cd-r i have, the surface peels off just by scratching it) -Are TDK cd-r's dependable (made by CMC magnetics)? -Are verbatim cd-r dependable?
@jimex289 - it's nothing to do with being noob, just read thru this entire thread and ALL your answers are here..
Is memorex a great brand overall in dvd-r (mine are made by CMC)? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO -Are verbatim dvd-r dependable? (The cd-r i have, the surface peels off just by scratching it) YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -Are TDK cd-r's dependable (made by CMC magnetics)? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO -Are verbatim cd-r dependable? YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Hmm alrite thanks guys. So you guys would recommend Verbatim CD-R? Is there a certain manufacturer I should look for for Data Life Plus? There is a DLP cd-r of Verbatim I have here and I can basically scratch off the top part. The bottom is a blue dye. Is it a good cd-r? I brought another TDK cd-r spindle yesterday, it came with 5 plastic white ring separators and its made in Taiwan by CMC. I emailed TDK support the other day and they said they still use HQ methods and materials to make the best cd-r regardless of OEM. Should I stick to using TDK or should i start using Verbatim. So far....I have 2 cd-r spindle of Memorex, 2 of tdk, and 1 dvd-r memorex spindle.
Alrite, so verbatim is the way to go. For cd-r and dvd-r, is it just verbatim, or verbatim regular and datalifeplus. Which one? Verbatim DLP is better than the other?
creaky, nohelpme is this a good deal, not verbatim though http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817132367&ATT=CD+DVD+R+RW+Media&CMP=OTC-B1zrat3
I know. I am even after all my ranting in raving to buy cheap media once in awile. I won't though, when you have to reback up like 50 dvd's it make you think twice from buying those memorex... believe me... you have to learn the hard way sometimes i guess
LOL good thing I learned a little early then. I wasted 20 something on a 50 spindle cakebox of Memorex, courtesy of CMC Magnetics. I have only used up 3 of these, and 2 Memorex DVD+R. They burnt fine, but I'm going to transfer everything on those Memorex and burn onto my Verbatim Dvd+R which are made by MMC. Thanks for the help guys. Verbatim all the way! LOL. I also brought a cd-r spindle of Verbatim.
jimex.....read this: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm this will tell you all about media!
LOL wow, the dvd manufacturer for my Verbatim is MMC, Mitsubishi Chemicals and it ranks as top media. Thats strange, if you take a DVD+R of Verbatim and a DVD-R of Memorex and compare the bottom, they look exactly the same. I guess looks can be deceiving. I wonder what I should do with my Memorex DVD-R's now, I got about 47 unused. Thinking about using them as shurikens, all there good for . Maybe a little skeet shooting with these instead of clay pidgeons.
comparing the dyes of memorex to verbatim, usually to the human eye is not discernable~ unless you got microscopic/super magnification eyesight~ dvd media pretty much ALL look the same on the dye surface, it's what actually GOES into making them that matters in the long run~
Heh definitely since Memorex and Verbatim DVDs surface look exactly the same, same color. The manufacturer CMC against MMC though is quite different. If you want cheap Verbatim DVD, go to Circuit City now. I brought a 25 pack for 9.99!!! I also brought a 50 cakebox spindle of Verbatim cd-r for like 3 dollars. The 100 cakebox is 9 bux. Super deals, I'm going back there tonight and emptying their stock of Verbatim products =).
I have some Verbatim CD-Rs that I've been using and they are made by Prodisc. They seem OK, though. I have scads of CDs that are several years old made by various manufacturors and a good many of them are unreadable. I went mostly by price in those days. So far the only DVDs that I've had do that had labels on them. I have had a few old ones that started getting high PI/PIF scans but would still play. I transferred these to better discs. Dave
As of now I'm only depending on Verbatim DVD+R to back up all my data reliably. The CD-R scan of Verbatim showed the manufacturer to be Verbatim and these are made in Taiwan. Don't know if thats good or not. These aren't Data Life Plus CD-R's either, just regular Verbatim. The dye on the bottom of these are a little lighter blue than the darker blue of the Verbatim Data Life Plus. I'm still hoping I can depend on these though, I just started my first spindle of Verbatim CD-R, the rest are very unreliable Memorex and TDK. I'm hoping the Verbatim DVD's will back the crappy CD-R media =) These Verbatim CD-R look a little "chipped" on the sides of some but I'm sure that this will not affect them.
