Memorex lifespan

I understand that Memorex brands various media, and although I have burned many disks without a single coaster I was worried when I saw someone post that the durability may not be all that good. Should I be concerned about the disks going bad?

On another note, I have read that everyone loves the Ritek G04, how can I tell when looking at online sites whether the Riteks are the G04s?

 

I have, personally, had a few old Princo's (spit) expire after a few months, although they were stored properly & care was taken not to touch the written surface. Conversely I have many G03(2X) riteks that were burnt over a year ago and are still error free. I guess there is no guarantee on the lifespan of memorex media. I periodically test a number of my backups, using DVDInfopro, for errors. One thing is for sure though, that quality media will last longer than cheaper brands but thats only my opinion.

Ritek G04 are identified as 4X media.There is also G05 (8x) media available aswell. Try to get Ridata or Ritek own brand if possible.

It appears that RIDATA DVD+R 4.7GB 4X, Model DRD+474-RDCB100 - OEM (as seen on newegg) is slightly cheaper than the RIDATA DVD+R 4.7G 4X which comes in the red shrink wrap (and have been praised here). The first ones test as Ritek-R03-02 while the red shrink wraps are supposedly RICOHJPNR01. The difference is only about 7 cents per disk, so not a big deal, but which one is better? Neither shows up as G04...

 

Sorry mate I can't vouch for any Ritek DVD+r media, I have absolutely no experience of them. I only use "-R". Someone will advise you though, sit tight.
