    Hello
I have ddr2 memory in my pc 2Gbs, 2x 1Gb sticks. Please can anyone tell me if they have to be in the first two banks. At present one is in bank 1 and the other is bank 3, would it matter that they are in those banks. I put them there to help with air flow. Would it effect the performance if they are in banks 1 and 3, instead of banks 1 and 2?

    HI!
it depends on many things. first it will depend of your mobo and if is capable of running dd2 in dual channel if the banks have diferent color for example 1 is green and 3 is green so it means you put memory on same colors if all banks are in same color alll black or blue etc.. you can use 1,2 or one and any other todays mobo sum a sync memory no matter where you put it old mobos only sum memory when they where place on next the other so!

    hope i help

    Thank you for the reply.
It is very helpful. I wasn't sure if this would effect the system. It is true I have different colour banks and I have put the memory in the slots that match the colour, 1 and 3. The reason I asked was sometimes when I have 4 or more programs open at the same time the system seems to struggle when I open different pages. Thanks for clearing this up.

You need to consult your motherboard owner's manual. It will show you the correct configuration for putting in RAM.
