If I buy a 1 GB memory : DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Cas Latency 4 Will that be able to run on my Gateway 7320GZ which currently has: Memory Type DDR Memory Size 512MB Memory Speed DDR333 (PC2700) I guess my question is would my computer slow the memory down to make it compatible with my specs? According to crucial, your motherboard will take DDR memory, so no, that memory will not run in your system. If however that memory you are looking at is DDR and not DDR2 then it will run, but may not run at full speed depending on your system.
