OK, so I have 3 CDs of battlefield 2. I don't want to use 3 DVDs to back it up and I want to rip the .iso off the CDs and merge the .iso's into 1. What program would I use for this?

I was thinking of using Alcohol 120% to rip off a .iso, but they only come up as .mds when I do it. Are .mds the same as .iso?

EDIT: I am running Vista and ubuntu 8.04, so I have programs from 2 OS's that I can use ;-)

EDIT: I used MagicISO to rip the .iso from the CDs, so now I just need to merge them into 1, but I can't find anything on it.

i've never heard of merging .iso files... and you say you dont want to waste 3 dvds? Even if you did merge the .iso files, you would end up with 12gig file (assuming each of your 3 iso is 4 gigs a piece)...now my question is: where are you going to get a dvd that can hold that much data?
What i would do is rip the iso's and put them all in a folder, then put that folder in an external hardrive for safekeeping (if you have one). If not then burn em to dvds...

If you saw my OP, I said 3 CDs which are a max of 700MB. That is 2.1GB which will, of course, fit on a DVD (4.37GB).

you want to to just put the isos themselves on one DVD or are you trying to merge them into one single DVD (install/play DVD)? If your trying to merge them into a single disc that installs and plays BF2, you are in for a ton of work. There is method of doing it, I just too lazy right now to go dig it up but it can be done.

If you are just trying to put 3 individual 700 mb isos on one DVD, you should be able to do that as a data disc

I am trying to merge all 3 .iso from the CDs as one and then make it so with all 3 of them together, it will install battlefield 2 with 1 DVD disc instead of 3 CDs.

my bad ^^ sometimes i rush through the posts! still havnt come up with anything though...maybe what you could do is extract the files from the iso's and put them in a folder then use MagicISO to put all the files in one ISO. just a theory ...

hmmm...i guess you could also try the following...
    1)install the game
2)if it needs a disk in your drive to be played then find a 'no cd' c4ck and install it..
3)gather all the Battlefield2 files and put them in a folder
4)create iso/image or simply burn the files to cd/dvd...

that way next time you wanna 'install' the game you dont need to...all you got to do is copy the files to the right directory...

Not as simple as just copying all the files to one dir and burning it - there's setup files on each disc that look for the next disc that would need to be edited so it wont ask for the next disc. I know I saw a tut on how to merge several game install discs into one somewhere, just cant find it right now, but I do know it can be done. Try googling Merge multiple install discs to one or something along those lines

ok now for the real no bullshit answer to this question...

In the case of battlefield 2, you need to get all files in the first ISO (disc1) and burn them as a data dvd (meaning you extract all files and put them into the root directory of the DVD (I.E. D:\)

for the other discs...they too need to need extracted into the root directory of the dvd (in vista, if you extract both discs into the directory you may have files that are named the same, with vista you can choose to "copy but keep both files" this way, both files are there without overwriting any needed files

you can also put expansions for BF2 on that same dvd....(armored fury and euro force) all you do is rip the ISO for those games...make a folder in the root directory of the DVD and extract them into there...then all you have to do is run the setup.exe (before you burn that dvd, make a .txt file named 'serials' and of course list all keys for the games...and www.gamecopyworld.com get a crack too to burn on there...
