I have Vista Home Basic x64

Ok I admit it...I was playing around with the registry trying to get rid of a bothersome context menu icon and I ended up deleting some important Windows Media Player entries. Yes I feel stupid and I've already chewed myself out for it!

I know it messed things up too because now when I click on an AVI file I get that window that asks me what program I want to open it, even though the "remember this option" is already checked, so I keep getting it.

I looked into downloading another WMP 11 .exe and install it over everything but I could not find the version I had installed. I then tried running System File Checker but that didn't help. I'm still trying things though...As I speak, I'm downloading a Beta of the new WMP 12, so that's an option.

I know that I could probably also reinstall Vista or at least perform an upgrade so that I still have all of my files, settings and programs, but I'm not too excited about going that route yet.

I also might just install The KM Player. I was going to eventually do that anyway but still for "All systems running" purposes, I still wouldn't mind being able to repair WMP, though I don't know if that's possible since you can't uninstall it.

No unfortunately I don't. I've been running without System Restore installed for the time being. I also could not figure out how to get WMP 12 to work. I think because I run x64, that could be the problem.

I did find out that I am actually able to play AVI's in WMP by opening them up in the programs file menu. It's just when I try to click on an AVI icon that I get that error that described in my first post.

Isn't there any place where I could just download WMP dll's or something because I have a feeling that's all I'm missing.
