    Hi
I own a Sony DCR IP220 camcorder, and it uses the micro mv tape format. The provided software, sony's movie shaker isn't very good (at all), but it appears to be the only software that lets me download the movies onto my computer, even using the firewire i-link. Is there any better software available, for instance an adobe premiere plugin?

    Cheers

Ulead software (VideoStudio or MediaStudioPro) will let you capture MV.

Go to the Ulead site and get the free trial download. I'd recommend VideoStudio as a good beginner proggy. It does pretty well all the things most people want. Of course, save your compilation as DV AVI (type II) and use a separate encoder to encode to VCD/SVCD/DVD. You'll get much better results that way.

With reference an alternative software to get your videos into your PC, I use a software called DVGate Plus. It is also a Sony product but it is not included with the Camcorder Software. But another problem, the files are saved as .mmv format and this is not compatible with Windows Movie Maker, how can I mix and make my own movies?
    Regards and Thanks.
