and...don't forget to test the mic on a system you know works. Even a stereo with a mic jack can be used.

It can be a number of things. Try to reboot, look if things are plugged in as wires can get loose etc

    Look at this:

When I connect my guitar to my pc, I hear it.
But when I connect the microphone, I ain't hear a shit.

Do you think the microphone could be dead or something? o_O

So you WANT to hear your own voice while talking into the microphone? Odd, I spent hours tweaking my output so I *couldn't*.

Start/control panel/sounds and audio devices/ click the "advanced" button

Or, if it's there, double click the speaker icon in your taskbar.

From the advanced tab, you may or may NOT have microphone volume enabled as a slider. If it's not, from that new popup window, choose "Options" then "properties" and click the checkbox next to "microphone".

Once you have microphone IN the slider window, you can turn up the output. If you still can't hear it, press "Advanced" under the microphone slider.

2 things here under "advanced controls".
    1. You might have multiple mic inputs, 1 is usually in the back and 2 is usually in the front. Make sure you have the right one enabled. If you don' *have* that option, don't worry about it.
    2. Enable mic "20 db Boost". Warning!!! This will make it blare out your speakers and hurt you, or blow your speakers if you have the volume slider turned all the way up.

When I use teamspeak/Ventrillo, I usually have to turn the gain almost all the way down with boost on, or all the way UP with boost off.

Now, if you have an advanced sound control feature for your soundcard, such as the soundblaster line, you might still be SENDING sound w/o being able to HEAR the sound, because most people don't want to hear their own mic, because then it echoes in the mic.

For the Creative Sound mixer, you've gotta turn UP the mic slider in "source" on the EQ to transmit (click the + at the top to enable boost), and turn UP the slider in "record" when it's set to microphone to hear it.
