"Microsoft clarifies 360 compatibility confusion"

"Gamers who want to play old Xbox games on the new system will have to run them through an emulator that sits on the 360's hard drive. Unfortunately this means Core users won't be able to enjoy the current Xbox back catalogue without upgrading. Microsoft has still to confirm how the emulation software will be distributed. Making it available for download via Xbox Live is the obvious solution but other sources reckon it'll be pre-installed onto 360 hard drives.

Either way, gamers looking to buy only the Core 360 aren't entirely screwed - Microsoft has appealed to developers to include the emulation software on current Xbox titles. But, due to limited resources, it's unlikely this will happen on anything but recent key titles."

i guess this should clear up all the confusion, this explains the rumors about how only the best sellng games could be run on the 360

it's good to see that this issue has been cleared up. i cant believe that this article came out over a month and a half ago and people have still been squabbling about backwards compatibility the whole time. now we just have to wait and see if the emulator will come pre-loaded on the hd or if we'll have to dl it.

 

yeah i know, i have been telling ppl that have been asking about backwards compatibility about this thread but everione is stubburn and lazy and just keep on asking, i mean look at the thread tittle, the date and the number of ppl that have been asking about it since...GEEZ

i tried to play an xbox game on the 360 today and it didnt work it said Game is either wrong region or dirty please insert a xbox 360 game.It has the hdd on this model

lol that is so bs, the only american xbox contest that is official is the mt dew one and ppl havent recieved theirs yet, and probably wont until about november 12, and b4 u say anything AMERICA IS THE FIRST ONE TO GET THE 360 ON ITS SHELVES....

 

no actually i work at wal-mart and we got a demo display in 2 days ago. thats how I have played it!

that's true, sorry its just that there are soooo many kids that are full of sh!t here, umm how did u put the xbox disc in it?? isnt it suposed to be at work?? and maybe the display ones dont have emulators, it only is supossed to play the demo disc

no its an actual 360 not just some special model. My boss wanted to se if it was backwards compatable so she ok'ed me to open one that was in our backroom and try it.

 

Im guessing you have to go on xbox live and download the emulators if it isnt backwards compatible out of the box.

 

ding ding ding. we have a winner. I checked all the options on the browser and couldnt find anything but a spot for demos that you can download from xbox live and "enhancment" programs.

 

enhancement programs...could that mean emulators???lol! I wonder if there is a separate emulator for each game or if there is just one emulator for many games?

 

its not one emulator per game, an emulator is a program that makes the game think its playing on an xbox so theres no need for many

 

Spade what game did you try? so we know that that game wont work lol i know halo 2 will work tho.
