its a generic windows message, could mean alot of things. maybe you have malware? do you use toolbar add-ons, dowmload managers, search helpers? alot of software can incorporate itself in to IE and cause problems. post a hjt log if you want: HiJackThis log - Trend Micro HijackThis 2.0.2 http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe * Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop. * Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop. * By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis . * Click on Install. * It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop. * Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis. * Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad. * Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log (no attachments) into your (Click --> ) own new topic * DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted. * DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what HJT lists will be harmless or even required by your Operating System. Follow my advice.
Thank You for your advice. I clicked on "Trend Micro-Hijack this 2.0.2" and part of it says "a lot of no how required" if not sure use Spybot or Adaware. I use Trend Micro 2008 and Superantispyware and my scans have removed cookie adware. As i`m not a professional i very wary about it. Is the next link you provided part of the whole install? I use toolbar add-ons but i suppose most people do?
I`m at the end of the install but i`m not sure what to do with (click--> )own new topic. Could you advise/ Thank you
hi, i dont see where you are seeing that, nevermind i see it now. download it from the first link i provide: http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe disregard those links in the directions, they are automatically added by this website, then just follow the rest of the directions. dont bother with any of those links other than the first one. the advice is wrong anyway. it suggest's you use spybot or adaware instead of hjt?? hjt isnt a malware removal tool. one should always use a commercial anti-malware app. if thats all they are finding, then thats good. I dont -------------------- its kind of confusing i will change that. once you get the text open after a scan, just copy the whole thing and then paste the text back here in your next reply, same way you have been replying. echoreply
I`ve done the log and saved it to my documents. Most forums have an attachment facility. Could you tell me how to get this back to you in the forum?

hi, ok, i will try: log in to afterdawn website, open the saved hjt scan you made in your saved documents. at the top go to file or edit> select all. then file or edit >copy. click add reply in this thread. then right click on mouse> paste or at the top file, edit > paste. that should paste your saved hjt log back here in the forum. click on the 'post reply" button. see if that helps. echoreply
Thanks, i just sent the log file to you. I`m pleased to say i finally worked out to place the cursor in the reply message box and click on paste above there. Do you suggest any add-ons that could be a nuisance? Will you let me know your opinion of the log file? Cheers
Received an email advising user has just posted a message to my "microsoft has encountered a problem needs to close" thread but when clicking on the link there`s no addition to the thread.
hi, ok you got the hjt log posted. the good news is: i dont see any malware in the log. you have anti-virus, a firewall and two anit-malware apps. all good. log looks ok as far as malware goes. echoreply
