8x has a minimum of 1x, 16x has a minimum of 1x. It all determines what dvd burner you have and what media you use! Like say for instance my sh-w162c dvd-rw lowest speed on 8x Verbatims is say 4x, however on my mum's liteon can burn the same thing at 2x. What you want to do is download the latest firmware then this 'might' enable your burner to burn at a lower speed for a specific type of media. N e wayz hope this helps.
