Hi, i'm trying to work out how to get my DVD recorder to record my mini-dv tapes so i can rip them for the pooter...

The camera is ancient, and i can connect it so the TV screen shoes what is playing on the camera via a cable (i don't know all the technical terms of what it is!). The cable has a port that looks alot like a USB and plugs into the front of my TV via 4 coloured cables (black, red, yellow ande white). I can get it to play on the TV through a channel called AV35 but the DVD recorder only sees my normal Sky channel and so i get recordings of Coronation Street rather than what is playing on the screen!

    Any help? Thanks!

You need to get a firewire cable for your video camera, and connect it directly to your computer, that way.

USB cables are good for downloading photos.
