Hi everyone, I'm going to be connecting my MacBook to my TV (which has a VGA input), to use as a monitor/second monitor.

I have a cable that was supplied (with another PC) to connect a PC tower to a monitor and is Male DVI one end and Male VGA on the other.

Im not 100% sure on how these cables work, so my query is that
-the Male DVI connection on the cable has 16 small pins and 1 large lengthier pin
-whereas the Apple Mini DVI to DVI adaptor allows for 24 pins.

Will the setup I am proposing work, even with the different amount of pins?

(if I wasn't clear) Im am going to try MacBook, with Mini DVI to DVI adaptor -> Male DVI to Male VGA -> to my TV with a VGA connection

    Thanks Londor.

I have ordered a similar one, so that I can use a different cable, instead of the VGA to VGA.
Its an Apple Mini DVI to DVI.

    Thanks again.

The mini-DVI to DVI adapter that Apple sells is DVI-D and not DVI-I which means it only carries a digital signal so it will not work if you attach a DVI to VGA cable to it.

If you want to connect a VGA monitor to your MB you will need the cable I linked to in my previous post.

Ok thanks a lot. Luckily the product I had ordered was (and has been for a while :S) temporarily out of stock, so I could cancel it. Thanks Londor.
