    Simple & free: Microsoft Moviemaker.
However, you cannot create DVD's with it.

Indeed, no DVD, even no VCD. Unless you have a PC with an OEM pre-installed Windows Media Edition. These PC's often have a plugin installed in Moviemaker to create a DVD.

What it can is create a so-called HighMAT CD, which was developed by Microsoft to conquer the world of digital video on CD. They failed utterly, because there are hardly any players that support this format. Just for fun, check out this article. The links at the bottom don't even work:

What you need to do is to save the edited movie to a new AVI file and import that in a DVD authoring program. Make sure to avoid common moviemaker mistakes:

You can use Nero, but it has limitations.
Reasonable in price and with decent capabilities are the DVD authoring programs from Ulead.

i got a hitachi dvd cam and i use mpeg video wizard dvd. its easy and great for sliceing up those scenes on the dvd. also can convert to just about any video file when done editing. (avi, mpeg, and dvd.) cost is 100 but well worth it if you got alot of videos to shoot and people to email them to
