Recently I've found myself in need to burn out some anime on DVDR-s, for several reasons. I've found programs that do most of the work (mainly CovertXtoDVD3) and the result is in pretty good quality. The only problem I have is the subtitles. Most of the anime is in MKV format with softcoded (is this the term for this? Has been away from video converting a year or two) subtitles, and ConvertXtoDVD3 picks it up nicely and I get to choose which subtitle tracks I want. But the output is terrible compared to viewing it. I recently discovered MPC combined with CCCP as an MKV player and I just love what it does with the subtitles (previously I used VLC, which meant having to choose subtitle every time I opened a file and generally crappy subtitles) and want those effects after the conversion to DVD. I understand that the DVD player has it's limits for what it can do, but is there any way to get those subtitles on the DVD? I don't mind hardcoding them (once again, is this the right term?), but all programs I've tried so far has had normal, crappy subtitles in them Thanks in advance. (Woo, first post ^^)
I don't really know how the DVD player processes the subtitles, but you can try to extract the subtitles from the MKV(using MKVExtractGUI for example) and then convert/edit those subtitles to a different type with more bells and wistles, then load the subtitles into your converting software.
