I hope you can help me. I've downloaded some video files and now I can't play them because they are .mkv files. When I click on them to play them, nothing happens, just a message comes up saying that these files cannot be played. What do I do with them then? How can I play them? How can I transfer them to AVI? I'm having terrible trouble with these files, converting them etc. As you can see by my name, I'm a teknophobe, so an "Idiot's Guide" would be very helpful please. Anything complicated and my head explodes LOL!! I hope you can help me and I can finally get to watch/burn the .mkv video files.
mkv supports almost any video and audio codecs, so we need to know which ones you need to play the file. Download Media info ( http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/MediaInfo-Download-23525.html ) Once installed, if you right-click the mkv file there should be an option to open with media info. Post everything in the "First Video Stream" and "First Audio Stream" boxes, then we can advise you more.
Yes I have VLC player and I can play them in the player, but what I need to do is DOWNLOAD them and can't seem to be able to do it, even with WINAVI.
Sorry, I don't mean downloading them, because I've already downloaded it, I mean COPYING IT onto a disc.
Copy to a disc? You mean you want to make .mkv to DVD,right? If this, first you muxt make sure you can play the file on your pc.Because if the file can't be played, maybe you don't have the codec for that file or the file is broken. So none of converter can convert it,even if winavi. If you don't have codec, you can visit here to find one for that special file: Good luck
