Hello everyone I have been coming to these forums for a few months just finally registered because I have one question I have yet to find an answer for.I currently am trying to play a mkv file off my computer and it seems the video/audio are out of sync. The funny thing is if I were to skip ahead in the movie the audio fixes itself and within a couple of seconds it goes out of sync,if I were to skip to the part I just played that was out of sync it would be synced but then goes of out sync again. I have tried many players but they all do the same thing and I am running out of ideas. The best mkv player I have used so far without any problems except the audio is the divx player. The other players I have do not seem to give a nice clean picture and have this weird problem on the video and sometimes freezes at certain points.Does anyone know of a way to fix this problem?

You might want to see if this can read the delay and repair the audio.

From 'Mistycat' Drag your file into the top window, highlight it and select "generate data".
In the lower window' highlight the audio and if anything other than 0 (zero)appears to the right, select "start" and in a minute or two you'll have a new file to use.

Failing that, 'Media Player Classic' lets you insert a factor to help sync the video during playback.
    Play> Audio> Options> Internal Filters> Audio Switcher> Audio Time Shift
Insert negative values if the audio lags.
Uncheck the time shift before playing a new video - else it keeps the inserted values.

I'm having the same problem playing a 14.3GB mkv that's 1080p. I suspect the problem is that it's such a high resolution that my computer can't keep up with the audio and video streams.

VLC media player barely plays it, but starts freezing up the video and dropping frames almost immediately. I then installed the CCCPack that came with Zoom Player and Media Player Classic. Zoom and Media Player play the video smoothly and don't drop frames. There is some stuttering of the audio at the beginning but it doesn't last long.

What's really annoying is the audio goes in and out of sync. To correct this I reselect or change audio streams. This pulls the audio back into sync. For perhaps the middle of the movie the audio stayed in sync and I thought I had things all setup right. But at the end of the movie the audio was slipping out of sync again. I could re-sync it by again selecting a different or the same audio stream, but it would only stay in sync for a short time.

My computer is a core2duo 2.4GHz with 2GB RAM running XP. I also have an Nvidia 8600GTS. So anyway, I'm stumped now. DVD's or ripped HD/Blue-Ray seem to play fine with PowerDVD. But there's something with mkv's that seem to be really hard for the system to play.

If you have a core 2 duo, I would have thought it would have been
more than enough to play this file. I would open up the task manager,
view the process tab and check the cpu utilization while the
    file is playing
