Mobile processor scores

    Does anyone here run a Mobile CPU? i've been looking around and cant see very many at all. If you do...how succesful have you been with it? I just want to get a feel for how well i can do based on everyone elses scores. so far ive hit 230*11 which is a decent overclock. ive seen higher fsb and processors at 2.7ghz. i would like to get at least 240 but i need a volt mod...and hopefully my ram will foloow up as well. feel free to post scores...or questions if you dont have a mobile computer.

    hes got nice ram and a nice vid card...diff mobile but still good overclock. anyone bench??? wonder what kinds acores you would get.

    The lower voltages would affect the power consumption and OC overhead but not actually affect the running of the chip. It would perform comparable to a desktop chip with that OC

    would a desktop barton overclock as well though??? i dont think you could take a 2500barton to 2.5 or higher on air unless it was freezing or something lol. im sure he could take his 2500M chip past 2.3...unless he just likes 2.3 lol. maybe his mobo wont go past 233 or 10multi...that would be weird.

    2.5Ghz... that might be doable with forced air.... you'd probably need a peltier (or maybe not, I can get 2.43 without touching voltages or nothing so it might be doable fine) ... what i meant was the mobiles would typically OC higher but compared to a similarly OCd desktop chip, the performance is the same

    ah that makes more sense. i never had a desktop barton when i was using normal chips...i tried the 2000XPTbred, and the 2400XPTBred...then just went mobile. so im not really sure what theere capable of.

    Aside from the OC overhead, there's nothing really different about the chips: if you compare two identically clocked chips odds are they'll perform identically :)

    what if you had a barton...and a tbred B...clocked same. the barton would come out on top correct? sue to the 512mb L2 cache? i never benched mt Tbred B so i wouldnt't know lol.

    Yes the barton would come out on top because of the cache advantage -- not 512mb tho! :p

    Yeah i know you meant that :p ... to be honest, other than the OC ceiling there isnt much difference between similarly "cored" chips running at identical clocks.

    The initial reason we all wanted to go with 2500+ mobile chips is because of the incredibly low voltage core it can run its stock speeds at. (The desktop chips are rated to run stock speeds at 1.65 VCore while the mobiles can run stock speeds at 1.45 VCore) .. essentially; they are the same chips; but the Mobiles are considered the best of production line as they don't need as much power to run at its rated speed.

    You're right .. there isn't much difference; when AMD produced these chips; to save on production / time .. all these chips were created from the same Wafer board. When they tested all these chips, AMD labelled the mobiles as they would run perfectly at 1.45 VCore (safely at the consumer level). Beyond the Voltage Core and the 266 FSB setting (hah .. joke) .. there really is no difference.

    The reason we all love to overclock them is the sheer brilliance of AMD ;) .. These chips were initially engineered to run at 1.65 VCore at stock speeds. As they realized that these chips can do less VCore and maintain proper operation .. us OC'ers think "well .. seeing at they're already unlocked multipliers; what would happen if I actually ran it at the desktop default of 1.65 VCore .. or higher even with good cooling??"

    To answer the myth .. the desktop chips [bold]THERORETICALLY will not[/bold] clock as well as these mobile chips. They're stock performance is based on a 1.65 VCore setting. Unless you REALLY want to over-volt your processor and try to clock it higher; it's not a logical nor is it a safe idea! ;) lol

    I'm purchasing a 2600+ XP-M tomorrow .. will post my scores when I get time.

    LOL.

    I noticed on another board that a user was able to get a 2600+ XP-M to clock at 2700MHz on air at a VCore of 1.85 ..

    Can't wait to get this chip. (I ended up ordering it today off a cheaper site I found with it so I'll be receiving it tomorrow from the sounds of it).

    VERY true ... both in theory and in practice ... of course it's strange that when the cooling gets really fancy, the upper ceiling for the Desktops and the mobiles arent that much different (with the mobile more often on top)

    2700mhz is quite an overclock for air. i think if i raised multiplier higher it wouldnt be too hard to get it. but temps would be in the 50C+ idle i imagine. i hate running that hot. hopefully water cooling or the like isnt too far away for me.

    Let's put it this way (LMAO) .. The system I'm throwing the new mobile chip into WAS running idle around 55+ - 60C at STOCK speeds (XP2100+) .. the machine had been moved around quite a bit .. long story why.

    One of the rubber feet on the top of the processor (which you seat the heatsync on) was destroyed (so I make-shifted one) which didn't serve too well.

    Funniest part of the above story is that ANOTHER foot came off and the processor ACTUALLY RAN at 90C!!!!!! I found out when I opened winamp and it played a track on its own and didn't show up in the taskbar or tray. When I went to close it in task manager, the user names for who ran which program / service miraculously disappeared at random) LOL.

    Upon rebooting and checking my temps I saw 90C so I shut it down immediately and then noticed that the heatsync wasn't seated properly. So .. I KNOW the board / chip still works .. I ordered a new Vantec TMD Fan and an Athlon 2600+ XP-M for this board. All should be well.

    Moral of the story ... 50C is NOTHING .. AMDs can withstand a threshold of at LEAST 75C (that's what THEY say .. you know you can go higher) LOL. But as it stands, I want to stay below 50C so I see your point.

    if you get the right mobile chip the die temperature is 100C...pretty impressive. i think the hottest my computer has ever gotten is 65C and that was my 2400+. today my mobile is at 1.75V ~32C. but a few days ago it was going to 50C just playing mp3's. kinda odd. the ABIt temp isnt trustworthy lol. my gf's computer runs 47C idle stock cooling...too hot:(

    Well I haven't received my processor as of yet ..

    There was a slight (stock) mix-up at the store I ordered from .. and if that wasn't enough; there was an issue from the company that is shipping it to me. (It's air-shipping and they JUST missed the flight out last night) .. The store ended up upgrading my processor(for free) to the Athlon XP-Mobile [bold]2600+[/bold]!!! (don't tell me there's stock when I order it and then tell me that it's out of stock while I wait patiently) lol.

    From reading; it's a much better chip to overclock with than the 2500+ Mobile AND from what I'm seeing; it's more available (it's was only $10 more; but I can live with the discount) :p I should get it tomorrow.

    In the meantime; I've been reading up on the best ways to apply thermal compound. (I'm staying on topic of this thread don't worry) .. While reading this; I'm also curious at to which compound comes with the Vantec Aeroflow TMD fan which I also ordered with my (now) Athlon 2600+ Mobile. Anybody knows if this compound is better than typical OEM-shop compound; lemmie know ;)

    I was THINKING of overclocking it when I receive it; but I have an "opinion" question lol. I'm getting my processor tomorrow morning (most likely .. assuming all goes well and the truck doesn't get taken away by some mysteriously large condor .. ) ..

    ANYWAY .... I DJ on friday nights .. so I'll probably install the processor as soon as I get it. BUT .. I will not do any overclocking whatsoever with it (yet). I know that I'm out of the house for at LEAST 6 hours .. so I'm THINKING that I may put it under some heavy stress tests at stock speed (using prime95 Torture tests and / or distributed.net benchmarking "All Core" tests) .. just to work the thermal compound in ...

    Does it make any sense to do that BEFORE overclocking? (I've read in various places that some people like to burn in the chip before testing its overclock-ability).

    Lemmie know what you guys think (the scores will come soon from my Mobile; promise) :D
