I'm shopping for a new MoBo and I have my eye on the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium. It has lots of great features but most of all the PCIe. My question is, in the picture I see 7 PCI connection; 3 standerd PCI and 4 PCIe. I wanna know what the 2 small PCIe connections, in between the 2 big ones where the 2 nvidia cards in SLI mode can be installed, are and what can I connect there? Here is a link to a picture of what I mean: http://www.viperlair.com/images/reviews/cpu_mobo/asus/amd/s939/a8nslipr/peg.jpg
The smaller ones are pci express x1 or x4. It for add on cards like video and sound that use pci express technology, but the slower x1 or x4 speed. I got them on my mobo too and havnt found anything that will work with them I need yet. But supposedly they make audio and vid cards for them. AS far sli mode...you do know you need to run two of the same exact card for sli to work? I.e. 2 bfg 6800 gts oc edition...cost bout 800.00! With sli mode you cant mix and match pci express vid cards...it has too be idental cards. But their should be a jumper on the board so it will allow you to use on of the slots. :>
I know about the sli mode. Not looking into getting 2 cards ATM. I am not a hardcore gamer. Hehe. Thanx for the heads up anyways. Thanx for the info in the 2 connectors as well. Was wondering since I would like to get that new creative X-Fi system, if that's where it would go on.
If your not looking to use sli mode then get a cheaper mobo. This is the one Im using and I have no complaints. Stable as a rock. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813123243 Its cheaper and just as good. I was considering sli mode myself, but this bfg vid card I have pushes out doom and delta force extreme no problem. Plus its over clocked right out of the box and has a lifetime warranty. How can ya beat that? :>
Wow I am very impressed. Has many of the features that the SLI one has and it's half the price. Like I said before I am not in to the idea of SLI, at least not yet, so I will consider this MoBo. Thanx for the link.
Your very welocome. As you can see their are very good reviews and I have not had a problem in two months. The only gripe I had is their server was screwey for a while and even with cable internet it took a while to download the new drivers. Other than that its very good. The server since has been fixed. Plus it has a magic bios which can automatically download and install new bioses. They seem to come out with them once a month. They also have a utility to measure voltage and temps...plus you can set alarms to go off if it overheats (thunderprobe). Plus they have a utility so you can use a custom pic for the boot screen. Plus many oc sdettings and also raid. Plus they use nvtune utility to oc the bios from windows automatically. Plus tons of free software. Im running raid on two ide drives right now with no probs. So I would highly recommend it. :> Good luck to ya...
