note: I posted a similar thread in DVD backup. Tried to move post here

I have a v7 PS2 and want to backup and run from hard drive. What would be a good setup. I'm looking for opinions. I'm looking at the matrix or the DMS4 line of mod chips with the maxtor 6Y200P0 or 6Y080P0, same drives I've used in xbox's. advice, opinions and/or links please.

Mate what id sugest is leaving out the while mod chip thing and going for hdloader disc and Maxtor 200gb+. The reason being to drop the whole mod chip is if you only wana run games from hd then theres no need for it because a chip only lets you run back ups from a dvd disk

    Good luck

I'm a little confused. Please keep in mind that I haven’t installed anything yet. Can I FTP with a DMS4 and using the toxicOS _41. I read in the docs that the ftp server in not implemented in the current release but on the apps tab screen shot it shows execFTPS. My question has to do with using a large HD (storage 128GB+) and the APAEXT file system. If I ftp files, will the files be placed at the end of the drive in the same way that the toxic os saves them? I.E will it start in the section of the drive that is above the first 128gb? Hope team toxic doesn't mind if I post an exert from the v41 manual:

“The second part of the HDD *should* only be accessed by ToxicOS or software which can recognize the format of the second part (at the time of writing, ToxicOS is the only application which can do this).”

    Hi,

I would recomend the DMS4 Pro. You can load games to the hd with tOXICOS and play disc backups. Not all games work from the hard drive so its good to be able to boot backup discs.

I listed the two maxtor's because i saw them on PS2 compatible listings. Is any1 running a HD with 16mb cache? I wound't think it makes a difference, worst case you only use 2-8mb of the cache, right?

Also, anyone ftp only with toxicos?
