Well i've tried all over the net to find a decent guide to help me upgrade my x-box to allow me to save my games to the hard drive. But can't find it anywhere, Would anyone be able to help me out with a guide and possibly a decent place to buy the items required? I think i need a hard drive and a mod-chip.
does anyone have any sugestions on which chips and hard drives to buy. I think i have a v1.0 x-box the mfg date is 2002-04-26.
just a quick one, probably a silly question, i replaced the xbox fan with a cool 8cm one with 4 diff coloured led's. I switched the fan speed with the 12v mod (split the black ground wire and taped it to the heat shield), noisy as hell by the way, but the led's shine much much brighter. anyway, the fan blades face the same way round as the xbox fan did before it, but it blows a friggin gail out the back of the xbox, i assumed it would need turning around if thats the case as the gadgets inside would want all the nice air blowing over them....is this the case, do xbox fans and normal pc case fans spin the same way, am i talking out my ass...someone please advise before i take it to bits again and turn the fan round.... its just that i sat and watched the cpu temp go up right infront of me on the 'dashboard' settings screen. regards...jim p.s...go buy an xecuter 2.6ce, with solderless 'xapter' adapter, very easy to fit, with coole blue led on the chip, great for crystal xbox's, still shines out the side of the normal black ones. jim
lost82, are you based in the uk, if so i can give you the e-mail address of the company i bought my 200gig hard drive off, cost me £90 inc delivery, and he also put 40 games on it for me, also installed the evolution x dashboard...pretty sure he ships outside of the uk too...and provides after sales support....
yeah JimmyO i am from the uk. if you could pass on the detailes that would be great thanks for the advice on the chip too.
@JimmyO-the fan should be blowing outwards...and if you are running a dash that has fan controls in the settings, you can just hook it up the old way and use the settings to turn up your fan. Some dashes have a setting where you can have the fan speed up if it gets too hot and then it will slow down to normal once that temp is reached. Another good tip on keeping your box cool is to replace the thermal paste under the cpu and gpu with some nice new arctic silver. It should reduce your temps by about 10 degrees celcius.
