If anyone has installed this modchip themselves, please read this... I've got the modchip mounted and started soldering. After starting to go through the install diagram, I get stuck at Step 2. Can someone describe to me how to solder points A & S? I'm not sure exactly where it's directing me... If anyone has a zoomed in picture of one of these solder points, that would help. The diagram is located here: http://www.duomodchip.com/english/install/duo3ultra/duo3ultra_v7.jpg I would also like to know where points G, H, & I are located. There isn't a step associated with these points. Are they on the reverse side? The tools I'm using are: 1) Radio Shack 15W iron (Model 64-2051) 2) Kynar 30AWG wire (Model-278-501) 3) Standard Rosin-Core Solder .062 dia.
If anyone plans on attempting these kind of projects themselves, spend the extra bucks on the right equipment. I killed my PS2 by not using the right soldering tip and destroyed an IC chip. This site has some great tips and techniques. http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/ps2tips.htm
Theres always a risk that the Ps2 will break. Might as well get Swap Magic since its the safest way to play Moded PS2 games. Or buy a moded Ps2.
how do I know what bios version I have?? for instance i have an old ps2. between ver 1 to 3.. not sure if its 010 bios or 020. and No clue on how to find out. also i dont understand that GH004 or GH005 stuff...
These guys seem to be quite negative towards modding. First off, you mentioned 30awg wire. Do you know you need thicker wire for the ground and 3.3v? Points A & S are on little fuse like blocks...tiny tiny fuses. Anyway, look closely on the board and match the diagram to your board. You'll see that the arrow is actually pointed to one side of the fuse. Points GHI are on the bottom of the motherboard. First time modding? Let me know if you need more help, feel free to PM.
The Gh- xxxxx should be printed on the actual motherboard in gold letters which can help you identify which version bios you have.
