I soft modded my xbox a long time ago but now I want to get it updated. I think I need to do the process all over again. When I did it , it didn't necessarily come out as maybe one of you veteran guys would have liked but it was okay for me. At the time all I was trying to do was mod it and backup my games and nothing else. I've never had it hooked up to the internet. It doesn't play sound either so I really want to update it. My question is do I have to start all over or can I work with it like it is? Thanks guys and sorry if I still sound like a noob.

If it's modded, simply download AID v4.10 from my software page and install a new dash!

    I recommend XBMC!

Thanks for replying. I thought that maybe I could do that. I'll have to ask though, since I don't want to do anything stupid and ruin it, how would I do that? I have the AID 4 but I don't know what to do with it or how to get it on my xbox. I tried to do the FTP thing yesterday and it couldn't communicate between my xbox and my computer.

I remember the first time I did it. I had to do the Splinter Cell thing. Do I have to do that to installs new applications.

AID is an ISO file, you can burn it o a disc, insert it and then a GUI will guide you through the rest!

OK, I used DVD decrypter a long time ago to upgrade my hard drive to a bigger one. I can use that to burn it and then just put it in the XBox.

Hey, I don't have class today so I've been trying to FTP to my Xbox and it worked! Yay! I'm all excited because I tried the other day and couldn't do it. It seems I had the wrong AID so I'm downloading the one from your guides but it's taking forever. Is there anything I can do from here?

I managed to finally FTP to my PC which in the end was simple, I'm just an idiot. I need help with the ISO step. I've burned a CD twice but it still doesn't work. My xbox doesn't read them. I've buned a CD-RW and a CD-R, both Memorex with DVD decrypter at 4x speed. Is it a problem with the Xbox or do I have to go out and buy a DVD burner and a specific type of disc, or maybe I did something wrong?

Most Xboxes won’t read cd-r and cd-rw's unless your Xbox cd-rom is modded, If you burn to a dvd-r it should work fine, as long as your burning it correctly. DVD burners are cheap like 30 bucks on tigerdirect.com. If you want to backup games to dvd you will need one anyways.

I have explained how to burn ISO files in my HDD Upgrade tutorial!

chunkhead I did that. I created the iso image with the updater tool that comes with the AID 4 package. I then used DVD decrypter to burn it to a disc. I've done it three times but my xbox refuses to read any of them. What did I do wrong?

Sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean to imply the all Xbox drives would not read CD-RW, but rather none (unless unmodded) will read all CD-RW, so unless you know what brands of CD-RW will read then you can burn it all day and it won't matter, it still wont read. Personal I have tried several different brand and have never had any luck, so maybe if someone knows what brand will read. Maybe that can solve the problem your haveing.

    Ok, lets just clarify...

The Xbox currently plays backup\copied games?

If yes, then there is no reason why it shouldn't work!

I have provided a link in my software section to known working AID

You said backup/copied games, I've never backed up any of my games to another disc, I put them on my hard drive with DVD2xbox. Am I going to have to buy the DVD-RW drive?

No, it's ok! I was just checking that it was modified! You're fine!

Again, get the AID from my software page and burn it correctly, your console will boot it!

I've tried five different discs and it still doesn't work. I am going to download the Lite version to see if that makes a difference. If not I guess I'll have to buy a DVD drive. Thanks chunkhead for all your help and those guides otherwise I wouldn't even be able to do any of this.
