    I have a PS2 version SCPH-30001 R and wanted a modchip.

So i went to my retailer and they said that if i was going to get a modchip for this version of PS2 it would usually last about a year or so because of the laser it has ..the older version

so was wondering if anyone else has this kind of model and their PS2 lasted longer than a year.

By the way i think the chip they have is Magic 3.1

Get a better chip like Matrix Infinity or DMS4 Pro, it'll be worth the money.

Also install a laser fix, that'll help the laser to last

There's no guarantee that it'll last more than a year as all lasers are different, but you can always buy replacement.

i agree, don't buy that Magic Chip.
Get a better quality chip like DMS4 Pro or Matrix Infinity
if your worried get a laser fix, but the V9 is the only older model that i have ever heard of having any kind of laser problem.
But better safe then sorry since the fix is only like $10

As above, it's a lot cheaper to get a laser fix than getting a new laser in the future :) and a lot of installers throw in a laser fix when you get a chip installed anyway

there's no laser fix for v5/6 ps2. and yes dont buy a magic 3.1 its the worst i ever tried. i'd go for a Duo chip which costs only slightly more than magic. the lens will last for a few years if your ps2 has been under ultilised till now.
