Hi All Ive been reading over the forum in an effort to fix my dead starview. It appears to be just dead, no power going to it but there is some sort of ticking sound coming from the power supply. Now from reading over the previous posters Im guessing that either a capacitor (C11 or C21?) is blown or it has to be JTagged, which even after reading about it, I haven't a clue what it is or how to do it. I've removed the cover from the box and had a scan over the caps, none of which seem damaged or domed. Anyway I can see that whenever somebody posts a similiar problem the same questions are always asked so Ill try and provide what I know about it: (1) It appears to be a genuine box I think as you can see from these pictures, 25 vents: http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/1852/pic001gy2.jpg http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/6901/pic002zh9.jpg http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/2161/pic003xv0.jpg (2) Im on the Chorus network and the firmware was updated 3 weeks ago to 'cryptstar v1.4 core 400' by somebody who knew how to do it. (3) I've taken a few snaps of the power supply just so somebody can confirm if this is a genuine box. I remember reading somewhere that you can test the power supply by using a multimeter to get a specific set of voltage readings across certain points on the circuit board. Would this help? http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/7130/pic004wc4.jpg http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/9605/pic005mn9.jpg http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/4201/pic006gn9.jpg So does anybody think there's any hope of repairing it? Should I replace the 2 capacitors anyway to check them? Can you pay someone in the Dublin area to JTAG a box? Has anyone got any other advice that might help me out? Thanks in advance TC
Send fergusrb a PM he may or may not be able to help you out. Ticking sound usually means it needs Jtaging.
