What are calibration errors, and as far as firmware how do you go about and what exactly will updating that do. i go there for firmware and its like a whole new language
Your DVD burner writes a 15 step test pattern on to your blank and then trys to read it back. If it can't, you get a power calibration error. This test is done is so your burner will know the correct laser power levels to use. Firmware can provide information to your burner about the DVD you are trying to use. Drive manufacturers test various brands of DVD media and then make changes to the "mini-program" in your burner, the Firmware. With this change added to your burner, when the burner recognizes this DVD it will run the specific set of instructions for it. If the DVD is not one the burner recognizes it will try and use a generic set of instructions to read/burn the DVD. Specific instructions are always better. The Power Calibration Checks are done with every DVD, regardless of them being recognized or not. Firmware can make a difference though. I use Pioneer drives which are very easy to update. I don't know about yours. www.rpc1.org should have the updated firmware. Their site is still down so you may have to wait. Basically you download the firmware and follow the instructions that come with it. For a Pioneer burner you just click the .exe and it installs itself in a few seconds. You just don't want to interrupt the process. I use DVD Decrypter or Imgburn to check my firmware. Select Tools > Drive > Check for Firmware Updates. It will connect to the correct page at rpc1.org and show you a list of available firmware.
i'm gonna have to close this one now as you've spread the problem here this time - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/327316 pls be more careful, you simply need to reply to your own threads, not keep spawning new ones at least you've had some replies here to help you. i'll look at your Nero log now but this spawning of a new thread each time you want to progrss the initial issue has to stop, nearly all your posts are from the same single problem
