Hey all. Well what a bad day. First i have to re-install Windows and lose nigh on everything and i go to put iTunes back on the computer and i end up deleting everything off my iPod. Anyway when my iPod used to connect it had the charging symbol like it should do, however now mine is constantly showing the 'Do Not Disconnect'.... Okay i have just UNchecked the 'Enable Disk Use' as i type this and it seems to have gone back to how it should be. Is that right?
That is correct. Sorry to hear you lost all your music. If you change your iPod to be manually updated even if you connect it to your computer without any music on it, it's contents shouldn't be deleted. There are also programs avalible to retrieve music from your iPod should you ever have to re-install windows. A way to do it without any programs is to connect your iPod to your computer, and open up your My Computer folder. Find your iPod, and enable the view of hidden folders. All your music should be revealed to you. The song names may not look preserved in the folder, but if you add it to iTunes the titles should come back.
Thanks for the reply. I do have my music as that was the one thing i could transfer on my old i-River. However i plug it in on the first time after re-installing iTunes and i deleted all the music off my iPod. In the process now of putting it all back on but i've had such a stressful day i will do a few more albums and leave it. What gets me is it's lost all my videos...Grrr i had only just converted a load on there! Oh well 115Gb of TV shows were also lost so a few things on an iPod that i can get back on shouldn't stress me out too much.
Losing that much data is sure to stress someone out. Glad to see you at least have most of your music backed up. If you purchased anything from iTunes it will let you redownload it if you log into your account. I havn't done it myself so I don't know the specifics, just that its possible :/
I don't recommend it really, you can usually just by the CD for around $10 and the audio quality is much better. And the sound matters, what's music without the music part?
Hi Trevor// I believe it would be a good investment for you to purchase an external hard drive. Of all the computer hardware I have bought recently, it is by far the most useful purchase, as the state of my computer got so bad that I was forced to perform a destructive system recovery. However, the fact that I had my data saved on the hard drive made rebuilding my PC (software wise) a whole lot easier.
Is that plugged in by a USB then if it's external? How big and how much do they cost. This has got to have been on the most stress day/previous evening in the last few years.
You'd probably want to buy one equal to the size of the hardrive in your computer now. You can buy a 300gig hardrive for around $80 [American] and just buy a casing for it, which runs around $20-$30, which is a bit cheaper then just buying a premade external drive. Assembly is fairly simple. The drives generally connect through a USB port.
I might have to look into that. Would be usuful for other computers in the house too as there is sensitive information on a couple other PC's/Laptop's and all of them have iTunes. (Thought i'd add that as it's gotten away form iPod discussion) Serious note though i will have a look around the places here in the UK. Hopefully get a good deal and would be handy for the lack of stress if it happened again. I must say i doubt it happen again as i will be sticking to sites that i frequent alot, it's made me even more wary.
If you have space for that HDD in you PC then you could add it there. Anyway you do it, just do it. It sure beats losing everything as I am sure you can attest. Back It Up!! Good luck, either way, it's easy to do.
