    Hi

I am new to the dvd burner world. I am looking to buy my first burner. I want to make sure i get one that is compatible with my stand-alone dvd player. I have read a bit on these forums and it seems i would want it to support bitsetting. And i also want it to support DL

I have looked at the LiteOn SOHW-1693S, it seems to be fairly cheap and have mostly good reviews. Is this a good option, does anyone have a better option thats under $100?

    Thanks

the AD user "teflonmyk" has that new liteon drive, from what he says, it's very good...i trust his recommendations and judgement on burners as he was the one that turned me to the modified firmware for my pioneer dvr-109, which if you know about pioneer burners, they CAN NOT booktype (bitsetting) using OEM/OFFICIAL firmware...i now CAN booktype using the pioneer using the modified firmware...

he has given the new liteon you mentioned pretty good ratings for it's features and the price is GREAT~! on newegg.com hehehe

give it a try, when my older liteon dies, i will replace it with the Liteon SOHW-1693S too...and when my pioneer dvr-109 dies, i will replace it with a new BENQ (my buddy saugmon has convinced me to make this my next item for purchase..) hehehe...

oh btw, here is the link for our previous discussion...regarding all the burners i currently OWN and use...

at the time of purchase, when they first came out, i had to be the "first kid on the block" to own them...so, i paid a premium for them...over $100 for my first Sony~

but, naturally, as newer burners are introduced from various manufacturers, the prices have come down significantly...

here is the link to the aforementioned burners i have and how i rated each one briefly...

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/224674

good luck~ all the burners mentioned in this thread are ALL under $100 now...from the sony to the pioneer to the nec to the benqs to the liteons. :)

I've been pouring over tons of information about PC DVD writers .. I had narrowed my choices down to NEC 3540A, Benq DW1640 or 1625 or LiteOn's SOHW 1673S or 1693S .. I eliminated the Benq 1625 lightscribe because a friend of mine said it takes nearly ½hour to burn the label .. I finally decided on the LiteOn SOHW 1693S because it will do both +DL and -DL .. Also, my set top recorders are both LiteOn LVW-5005 and I feel that this will give me maximum compatibility, plus, there's that bitsetting thing

NewEgg has it for $37.99 black OEM, $39.99 beige OEM and $42.99 retail box ... plus $4 shipping on the latter two, $2 on the first .. go figure
