I have the Asus P5K-E Wifi/AP motherboard and I decided to check the temperatures. My CPU is 38C (Q6600 @3.07) but my motherboard temperature is 45C. Why is this? Asus temp monitoring utility shows 45C in red, asthough its a problem. Speedfan on the other hand shows a green check mark at the 45C for system. Should I be worried? I have rarely had this lock up on me, maybe like once a month or less. What is the "Ambient" temperature in speedfan? Mine is 57C with a fire logo next to it. Should I be concerned? Update: 44C for Asus temp monitoring is not red.
SpeedFan will show different color arrows and icons depending on how you configure it. You can set the desired temp range for each reading. You motherboard is probably warmer than usual because you are overclocking the FSB to get your 3+Ghz Q6600. Sounds like you need to be moving a more air around the chipset and out of your case.
How would I cool off the chipset? It is actually pretty cool to the touch, unlike my Nvidia 6800GT that I cannot touch. Should I really worry about this or not?
Just as an expiriment, you could reduce your FSB back to stock and see what temps you are getting, just for reference. You may find it doesnt change and I'm wrong. I'm not sure but I dont think 45c is terribly hot but if you can reduce it with some airflow then why not?
I'll try it out but I don't think it'll be possible. I'll lower my FSB and see what it is and post back.
2.7GHz now from 3.07 and I actually see my mobo temperature at 49C. The other reading was when the case was open. I actually think this is from my room being very hot. My parents as of now don't believe in using the AC until absolutely necessary so I guess my PC temps suffer. I need a fan on in my room constantly to keep it comfortable inside.
I think Ambient relates to the temperature of the graphics card, but if you see that, it should be printing the GPU temperature as well. What case are you using? You may be able to solve the issue with some extra / faster fans.
I am using the XION 1 case with 2 LED 80mm fans in the back, 1 120mm in the front, 1 LED 80mm on the side. I believe the speeds of my fans are 2500-3000 RPM. They are the Antec 80MM fans.
Could be better, but with fans that fast it shouldn't be a problem. Consider lowering the ambient temperature of the room or getting a custom chipset cooler like the HR-05.
Right now, after being on for about 5 minutes and my room window being open from 6AM in the morning (3:30PM Now) The motherboard temperature is 37C. Again, I am at 2.7 instead of my normal 3.07. Im going to hop back up to that speed and see if anything changes. Ill be working on a Ubuntu install and I'll post back. 8.04 lets you install inside windows 0.0!
