I have looked at all the threads regarding getting my sons v220 to talk to our PC. but none seems to cover my particular problem so here goes and I hope there are some experts around.

I have downloaded MPT and the live updates

I have downloaded all the p2k drivers and followed the advice from these forums.

When I get to the part where I add in the USB cable, xp (sp2) thinks about it for a while and then I get "windows was unable to install the modem" error.

I have searched for this and it has an article on microsoft suggesting a missing registry item. (I followed the advice from the ms article (I have checked out the microsoft site and it suggests that a registry entry is missing. (Article id 883356)
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883356)

I used regedit and discovered that all the records the proposed solution
highlighted were actually there (although I deleted, restarted, and
    re-added just for good measure).

I have also updated the motherboard drivers and tried again.

I have unintslled and re-installed MPT and still the same problem.

Also using the latest drivers for the phone but it never gets as far as using them.

I am still getting the same error and am now at a loss, Any suggestions ?

are you trying to install the drivers when the computer ask for them or are you letting mpt install them???

Initially I waited for mpt to ask me following the advice from several threads.

    It did not work.

I did also try the other way with windows trying to do it after I plugged the usb in, same result.

I have removed the device using device manager after each attempt.
