trying to get the best quality burning a .mov to a dvd (a football game). I used nerovision (which I'm assuming isn't good cause it re-encoded the whole thing) and burned to a double layer dvd so that I wouldn't have to use DVDShrink to shrink the movie down. Is there a way to convert the mov to vob files without re-encoding the whole thing?
No there is not. Your going from 1 codec to VOB format. .MOV I think is the extension for Real Player. So you will have to encode it no matter what program you use.
mov is for quicktime. It seems like a good format if you are keeping things on your computer, but not good for burning to DVD. I guess I'll just be happy with the way it turned out in NeroVision.
Yeah, the best you can hope for is that the DVD looks exactly as the original .mov file. However, if there are commercials, you can remove them with an editing program. This way you will have higher bitrate on the mpeg-2 after it encodes. I remember when I went from .mov to a DVD, the audio was clipping, so I had to edit it quite a bit. Make sure your audio levels are stable and that your speakers do not buzz or pop when you preview the movie otherwise you can damage your home audio equipment. Always preview on the PC with cheap speakers before going to expensive equipment. Also, to save space, use 2 channel audio rather than 5.1 and DO NOT use LPCM. LPCM might sound better, but it takes up more space than DTS would have.
