Movie and English Subtitles Only?

I've been using the "Movies Only" option on RB since I began burning DVD's. However, my Mom just married a guy who has hearing problems and needs subtitles when he watches TV. So, I figured I would start to burn movies with the subtitles so that he could watch them when he and my Mom are visiting.

Problem is, I can't figure out how to configure RB to get just the movie and the English subtitles and be able to turn the subtitles on and off (I only want the subtitles when he is there watching it -- otherwise, I want to be able to turn them off). I don't want any other extras.

So far, I've been able to get the movie with the subtitles on all the time, or with the subtitles menu that doesn't work. On Groundhog Day, I got the movie with subtitles on all the time but only every third line or so of the subtitles showed up.

Can anyone help me out here?

Make sure you (SAVE) the settings for the subtitles.

You can also double click on the English Subtitles if they have a red X to the left of it. This will enable it also.

larrylje is 100% correct. Another option is to use the Rockas Original skin. I like this skin, as it displays each of the Audio and Subtitle options for each Video Title Set and allows you to check which you want to keep.

I did exactly what you showed when I encountered the problems mentioned in my original post. I used movie only mode once and movie and menus only mode another time. In the first, got only partial subtitles (one line of about every three) and in the second, the english subtitle menu was activated (didn't just send me back to main menu like other menu items), but subtitles would not turn on.

Which "Mode" do I need to use to be able to get only movie and subtitles with the capability of turning the subtitles on and off?

You should be able to use both methods.

When you use the Movie Only and keep the English subtitles you will have to activate the English subtitles by clicking the subtitles button on the DVD remote (Each time you press the subtitle button it will give a different option). In your case when you scroll through the subtitles by clicking the button on the DVD remote you should get Subtitles: OFF and Subtitles: English

I made another guide below which is another way to make sure you have what subtitles you want to keep.

I load the DVD into DVD-RB and chose (MOVIE ONLY OPTION)

You now can select what subtitles to keep and to edit out in the window pain to the right.

Doing this should edit out all subtitles and leave the English on the DVD. As stated above you will have to click the subtitle button on the remote to turn off and turn on the English subtitles.

I'll give it a try Larry and let you know how it turns out.
