I've got this movie I downloaded from a friends website. I recoded it to a .vob file using ImTOO mpeg encoder, and the giant .VOB file played fine on my computer, but when i burned it to dvd it said I had to make a UDF DVD format, which doesn't work on my DVD player.

SO I've got TMPGenc and all these other programs from the guides on here but none of them will recode it. I really want this movie on DVD, not a VCD (which works, I tried). Can I somehow split that giant .VOB up into a bunch of little ones so I can make a regular DVD?

TO help you guys out, the info I get from AVIcodec for this vid is:
    File : 721 MB (701 MB), duration: 1:11:25, type: MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 56 %
    Video : 587 MB, 1150 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 352*240 (4:3), MPG1 = MPEG 1 (VCD), Supported
    Audio : 114 MB, 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0], Supported

    Please help!

have you tried to re encode using VSO divx to dvd.It will change the format of mpeg1 to that of mpeg2 which is the designated format for dvd +/- r discs

what other programs have you tried as you dont say?
tmpgenc and imtoo are only 2 what else have you tried?

What was the format when you downloaded it? Why not go direct from that instead of recoding something recoded? What was the download?

I posted all the info from it when I downloaded it. Its a mpeg1. And none of my dvd burning programs will let me use that format.

YOU WILL END UP WITH A DVD MOVIE FILE which is a mpeg2 compatible file.Once you have theis file i have found nero recode an exceptional program to use to get to the end result. However you could always author it with tmpgenc dvd author.

Lol.. this program, unlike the first one i used.. turned it into 3 smaller VOB's along with IFO and the works. I believe this will work fine. Thanks for all your help and the referral to that program.

I would just like to add something: the dvd files that VSO divx-to-dvd made will not work with nero rom or nero re-encode. I am trying with dvd shrink and it seems to be working fine. Andmerr, perhaps you could private message me with a detailed plan of what you do between vso and nero, cuz it doesn't work for me. Thanks

You must be doing something wrong because I burn DVD from DivxToDVD all the time. If you are converting more than one file, select them all as input. The file input dialog is multi-select.

I recommend Nero Burning ROM and avoiding all that other Nero stuff. Every time I tried to let Nero automatically convert to SVCD it created a huge file as you say. I do all my video format conversions with other
software. Then I just burn the disc with Nero Burning ROM 6603.

No I'm not doing anything wrong. I am thinking it is just this particular movie giving me trouble. I used to do all this stuff back in the day but haven't for about a year.

If you're not doing anything wrong then how can anyone here tell you how to do it? If it's right, then you have bad input files. Nothing we can do about that.

well after the project is completed with vso divx to dvd i have 2 choices.

1.use recode to merge the files together before burning with nero

    or

2,if i want to be less lazy, re author them and add menus, edit the chapters if need be etc with tmpgenc dvd author and then utilise nero as the burning agent
