i have windows xp. I had like 5 movies on my hard drive yesterday and was about to burn them, when my computer restarted. After this all the files disapeared! I tried to restore my computer to adifferent checkpoint but it didn't help. Today i tried to restore to a different checkpoint to get my old files but the won't let me. Is this a lost cause? Is there any way I could get those movies back?

thanks ddp. Do you know of any that are actually free. for almost all of them you can only retrieve 64K with the free trial.
i've only used the ontrack version & got a copy of the pro version from a friend that is worth about $1400. have used it a # of times on customers' computers.
ddp: ive used easyrecovery before and im assuming that ontrack is the same one. anyway, when i used easyrecovery, it recovered the files but not the file names. were you able to recover it with file names? if not, which ones of the above recover file names? thank you
I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago, but it didn't follow a crash/restart, my files just dissapeared. Then I realized what had happened. I got the newest iteration of the Girlfriend.Mad.About.Porno.2006 worm. THAT bugger is hard to ameliorate. Just wanted to share!
