Hi I have 465 mhZ celeron with 512 mb ram and i have a 2 mb video card. Every where i read its says that i only need 300 mhz and 64 mb ram to play Divx Files but when i play them on my computer they start to skip. i have tried to put the quality down in Divx and in Windows media player so that it wont skip but its still does. Now in order to watch movies i have to encode them so that there .mpg(which doesnt skip on my computer) but i dont want to do that. Is there any other way so that the movie doesnt skip...

Well, if you encode at very high quality settings, mainly using high resolutions, then your system will have trouble decoding. You can try using low resolutions like 352 x 240. Try playing your movies in players that dont use a lot of your system's resources like WMP 6.4 or the zoomplayer.
The divx decoder uses a heck of a lot just to decode your movies so you would have better results using the FFDshow decoding filter to playback your movies.

Download GSPOT and load your videos in the program to find out if you are missing any codecs that you need to playback both video and audio.

Download and install FFDshow since most of you movies have most likely been encoded with a codec that the fliter supports._X_X_X_X_X_[small]Life is but a dream...so wake me up already!!![/small]

Well, aside from getting a new processor, how about if you try re-encoding these movies with lower bitrates and/or lower resolutions.

What is the resolution of the movies that skip?

    1. Open VDub
    2. Open the movie
    3. Video --> Full Processing Mode
    4. Video --> Filter --> Add --> Resize --> Set the dimensions and such, use at leat BiCubic filtering.
    5. File --> Save As AVI
    6. Sit and wait

No not really. This is a fairly proc. intensive operation too so make sure your cooling setop is sufficient (it prolly is but just something to keep in mind)... how long did you expect it to take?_X_X_X_X_X_[small]ASUS A7V8X-X, AMD2500+
