Ok then i am after moving my hard drive from my old computer (Intel Celeron 1.2 Ghz, poor i know but it has done me proud over the years and it cost under a £100) to my new computer (Intel Pentium 4 2.6 Ghz, tower only got it for nothing though) but I dont want to format it and lose my programs, settings and tweaks and need help to do this. If i did a repair from disc would i lose my data and if not which repair would i use?

not possible; windows will fail to boot because of all of the hardware changes. you have to do a fresh install of your OS.

so you have to save all of your programs/music/pictures/documents onto a external hdd.

my main problem is backing up. I havent got a external HD or dvd writer on this PC and i don't fancy trying to back up 50 gig of data on cd's

meh....then your stuck in a sticky situation.......you can backup all your goodies to an online file share site:)...an external HDD is something very useful i suggest you invest in one as they become really handy over time:)

(just put the files to private)

if you want to move all your preferences/documents/background/music and all that goodness you can use the windows file transfer wizard:p

    (NOT FOR PROGRAMS)
